I'll be in Denver in March and was wondering about the poker at the casinos in the area. As far as I know, the closest cluster is up in Black Hawk.

What is the poker like in the casinos out there? Is it worth the trip out there?

Thanks!

Don't come to Denver if you're coming for poker. The state max on wagers is $5, so the games are all either 2-5 spread limit or 5/5. If that's the level you play at, it's great, though, because the 2-5 game is incredibly passive and you can play a ton of hands and then punish the retards by playing well after the flop. It's not surprising to see 8-9 people to the flop for $2. The 5/5 game is ridiculous - it's not rare at all for a $10 straddle and for it to be capped 4 or 5 ways before the flop, capped again on the flop, and 2 or 3 make it to show down A5o or 96s. There are rumors of collusion in these games.

If you can find a home game or get into one of the clubs while you're here, that might be better, but I can't give any info on that.

In the end, if you're coming to Denver in the winter time, you should be skiing.

edit: This is all for Blackhawk. If you do go, the best place to play is probably Mountain High, but I also have a thing for Colorado Central Station. The Lodge is where you'll find the most ridiculous 5/5 games. Also, the casinos close at 2am per state law, so if you have any interest in getting back to Denver in less than 2 hours (it's about 40-45 minutes from my couch in Littleton to a seat in the poker room without traffic), leave around 1am.

the casinos up "on the hill" (ie, blackhawk) are retarded. as patrick said, the max bet is $5. the games resemble a lottery more than poker. nevertheless, you can profit by being patient, playing the odds, etc.

there are some clubs/games in denver and the surrounding area that you won't find in the phone book. they range from shady to far above average. unfortunately, that's all the info. i'm willing to give on that subject.

there are some denver games that "advertise" in the denverpoker.com forums. i can't speak for those, as the place i play doesn't do that. but, if you check out that forum i'm certain you'll find a game. good luck.
