View Full Version : JJ...an unorthodox (for me, anyway) flop play

Reads: None on the principle players in this hand. CO has seemed loose & passive, but is still on his first orbit. BB is a moneybags, for what that's worth, and a 2+2'er is watching from UTG.

Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with J/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, J/images/graemlins/club.gif.
<font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP1 3-bets</font>, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, CO calls, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, BB calls, Hero calls.

Flop: (12.50 SB) Q/images/graemlins/spade.gif, A/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 3/images/graemlins/club.gif <font color="#0000FF">(4 players)</font>
BB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>....

Thoughts?

I like it just fine. Assuming the villain doesn't raise the Flop what is the Turn plan?

If I'm representing top pair, I'm betting it until raised.

This sounds like a good line against a LP-P or LA-P players.
Have you given any consideration to a TA-P or a TA-A opponent?

I hadn't really given it much thought per specific players...I'd be less likely to do this against a calling station who would call me down with a pair of queens, obviously, but other than that, I still think I'd rather be on the offensive than the defensive.

Easier to fold to a raise with JJ than it is to check/fold for one 1 bet.

Looking back on it, I'm not so sure that betting into a field of 4 was such a great idea, but hey...the 3-bettor is unlikely to think I'd do that without an A, and there is the chance that someone folds Axs (or a Q)...I guess?

BB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, MP1 calls, CO calls, BB folds.

Preflop 3-bettor mulls it over for several seconds and calls, then CO overcalls. Am I right to plan to bet out again on the turn?

Seriously...this is the first time I tried this move in a situation like this...heads up is a whole 'nother beast. I would really appreciate some feedback from you 100K hands guys here on whether this is a good, aggressive attempt, or just plain stupid against unknowns.
