View Full Version : My new B&M showdown style

If you haven't seen the commercials on ESPN for TILT, you might not get this, but it is so sweet I had to post.

From now on, when I play live poker and have to show my hand at the end, I am doing it Matador-style. This is so awesome.

Imagine moving all in with the nuts on the river. Your opponent calls.

In the past, I would just flip my cards over onto the table.

No more. Now, I do it Matador-style.

For those of you who haven't seen this, imagine the cards sitting on the table in front of me. I grab the edge of the cards closest to me. Then I slowly tilt the cards up like so:

(me -- ) (me / ) (me | )

until my opponent can see them. AWESOME!

I predict this will be commonplace at casinos in the not-too-distant future.

I do this all the time, and I know you are probably joking, but I am not.

This owns even more when you call your opponent and they lift them up like "I HAVE YOU OWNED, SEE!!!" and you do it right back at them and show them who really got owned! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good Times! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wasn't this basically what happened or what was discussed when Chris In The Morning did that poker show "Lucky" on FX?

I don't watch much tv, are you picking up the edge closest to you and then tilting it so that the face of the card is to him and your fingers are at the bottom?

You can see what ED is talking about in the trailer.

Are you also planning on jumping the guy across the table when he has the nuts, calls your bluff, and/or sucks out on you?

Do you plan to "Hurt people" in a cash game?

I've been pretty thoroughly amused by the hollywooding going on the more the poker rooms get gentrified. Some guy abused the hell out of a floor manager last Saturday, and you could tell who'd been watching too many Tilt trailers.

Bunch of numbutsisses.

it would be awesome if you did this in one of your big commerce 10/20 NL games in a huge pot.

and then he jumps across the table to tackle you but you swiftly move out of the way while yelling "Ole!"

I like to pick up one card at a time and have it make a snapping sound on the table. I then proceed to throw each card separately at my downtrodden opponent. Then, if they look at me in a way I don't like, I'll simply say "what?" with a look of utmost seriousness on my face.

I've actually done that.

Dealt pocket kings bet , raise, bet , raise

Flop comes down and gives me the nut boat, kings full of queens. Have five idiots down to the river and no one has anything better than a two pair.

I am so disgusted that I just lift the cards up in front of me so that they can all see that I had them at the flop.

True story. Happened at Caesars in Indiana.

Come on guys, haven't you noticed that the Matador is simply biting off the other poker "god" Teddy KGB?? That's the same way he shows Mike his cards when he busts him in the first scene in Rounders.

at Canterbury, your hot move would be promptly called upon by the dealer, as the hand isn't declared till it's face up on the table -

Yes TV and movies do influence people. You can see what ESPN has done to influence intellectually maleable boys in their 20's at B & M poker rooms.

Slow rolling is not a good thing to do unless you want people to think you are an a-hole and enjoy talking to floor people.

Same thing with what I've noticed to be a new fad among tools, namey just showing ONE card that they need to win the hand when it's a common rule at B&M rooms that BOTH cards need to be shown to win the pot.

Guys who do stuff like this just make fools of themselves at the table. Behavior on TV and in movies should not be copied in real life. But they will be, so get ready for the behavior at B&M's to get worse as college boys start watching TILT...

Everyone laugh. Shortly after retarded ESPN show airs, someone at your local B&M will do this to you. End laughter.

When you do this make sure you purse your lips and/or furrow your brow. That will make it even more AWESOME!

In fact, while you are doing aforementioned pursing and/or furrowing, if you can channel Ben Stiller channeling Tom Cruise, it could make your showdown perhaps the most AWESOME thing in poker showdown history.

Pursing the lips and furrowing the brow would be a great alternate touch. Sort of like the expression Trump wears when he says "You're fired!"

In hollywood NOBDOY get's AA when you've got AK! And if you're the star, you somehow never have to fold because you're blessed with top cards in EVERY hand /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Same thing with what I've noticed to be a new fad among tools, namey just showing ONE card that they need to win the hand when it's a common rule at B&M rooms that BOTH cards need to be shown to win the pot.

I've been seeing more and more of this lately and it really annoys the hell out of me... It's a shame that some people's only dealings with poker before they get to the table are TV and online and they never even take a glance at a rule book. A lot of them don't seem to have a firm grasp on the rules by the time they get to a real table. I don't know how many times I heard 'show one show all' before I even got to a B&M, plus I read it in the nice short rules chart when I got there. How do people miss this? In fact, most casinos i've been to actually have that posted plainly on their rules at the desk. I've been seeing a lot of slow rolling and showboating at the tables lately.

One guy just yesterday tried the 'show one card' thing and got confused and defensive when everyone said he had to show both. Like it was going to make a difference in how people read him if they didn't see his second card..

In "Show one show all", one and all referrs to players not cards. It is used when people flash what they have after either folding or after everyone else has folded. Doesn't change the fact that at showdown you need to show 2 cards to win

ditto the one card show, i think it is a sort of slo roll itself (the two things that tick me the most, although OPTAH is close). last time a guy showed me one king to go with the two on the board i waited to see the other card when he didnt show it i slung the first king on the floorasking what else he had(bad jason bad boy). one cure that works is to let a one card shower think they have won the pot and then resloroll them as hard as possible, let their arms get around the pot even. although neither of these will go over well in the casino/ might get you tossed for the day etc.... showing one card especially when it beats me really pisses me off, along with the guy that waits for everyone else to show ( even out of turn ) for dramatic effect. im getting better now though ineed to take more trips to tiltless..............
