View Full Version : Anyone else find that the 100s are easier than the 50s?

My sample is small, so I am looking for confirmation in the experiences of others. My ROI at the 105+9 turbo at Stars is much better than my ROI at the 55+5 turbo. I thought this strange, then I read an old Gigabet post where he said his ROI went up as he moved from 50 to 100. Have others experienced this?

This probably doesn't help much, but it's kinda humorous and on topic. Here are my stats since Christmas (all on Stars):

$25+$2 Turbos: 103 SNGs, -9.4% ROI (I was 30%+ the month before)
$50+$5 Turbos: 169 SNGs, 16.2% ROI
$100+$9 Turbos: 38 SNGs, 4.7% ROI
$210+$15 Turbos: 10 SNGs, 84.8% ROI
$525+$30 Turbos: 2 SNGs, 155.4% ROI

I'm thinking about becoming a $555-only player. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nah, seriously, it'd be easy for me to think that the $60's are easier than the $27's from looking at these numbers, but I know that for the 500-600 I had at each level in November and December, I was something like 25% for the $27s and 15% for the $60's. I'm still willing to bet that the difficulty increases as the levels move up, and any numbers showing otherwise are due to normal and expected variance.

Here is the Gigabet post I was referring to:

Unfortunately,I don't know how to create a link, but view the October 28, 2004 post by the once and future king, titled "Are Party 100s actualy [sic] tougher than we think". The general consensus there, with feedback from a number of respected posters, is that the 100s are tougher and can lead to substantial swings out of the money.

For the 100s to be easier, assuming you maintain a constant level of play, the player pool would have to be worse, or people would have to somehow play worse because of the greater amount of money on the line. Neither one seems particularly likely to me.

Edit: If the $100 game happened to be easier than the $50 game (or even equally easy), then $50 players with an adequate bankroll -- i.e., everyone -- would move to the $100 game, making it harder than the lower game.

My best guess for your results is ordinary variance. You do not mention your sample size. I assume it is less than 500? /images/graemlins/smile.gif
