So did I play this correctly? Shold I have raised more on the flop to chase out AA and KK?

You want AA and KK calling your flop raise because you want to take their stack. If you can't take it, you shouldn't be calling the preflop raise in the first place.

And, of course, with these stack depths you shouldn't have called the 5xbb preflop raise. Even if you assume he always gives you his stack whenever you hit your set (a very dubious assumption), you do not have implied odds.

it looks like you played it correctly after the flop. i wouldnt have raised 5xBB before the flop. and given the flop, i dont think there was any way AA or KK would fold to any bet you made.

Of course, I was up against AA - otherwise I wouldn't have posted this.

If I understand this correctly - I shouldn't have called 5xBB before flop. Assuming that I did, I played correctly post flop. The other guy was incorrect to call my re-raise on the flop, since his only chance of winning was catching an A, which is a 12 to 1 proposition. I'd take his money 12 times, he'd take mine 1 time. This just happened to be the 1 time. Does this sound right?

You can call 5xBB before the flop but it's close since that's over 10% of your stack. You want the implied odds that come from hitting a set when you're up against an overpair so never pay more than 10% of your stack.

If you each had $40 it's an easy call. Here it's marginal IMO but I probably do it more often than not based on the VP$IP of MP (he posted but he had $40.10 so it looks like he was just sitting out).

How should I play this?

The only thing that beats you is 2 5 which seems unlikely, or a bigger set. I would raise for value and hope he comes along. probably $5-10
