Why would party poker start folks with 800 in the cheap ones and 1000 in the $50 and up?

They used to all be 800.

I think they increased them for $50 and up to encourage people to play bigger (and hence pay more rake)

It is also reasonably common practice in multi games to get more chips for larger buyins so that people get a "run for their money".

They get done faster, so they spend their money (rake) more quickly.

iGlobalMedia is certainly doing well--- but I'm not sure if you're being fair.

Many of us prefer Party/skins precisely because of the reasons that you are complaining about. We make more money/hr playing SNGs that have a fast structure.

If you dislike Party's structure, there are many other sites that may be acceptable to you--- PokerStars and PokerRoom are two popular examples.
