I can tell you that the campus (one of a few, I believe) is just two miles from the Strip. So, when your bored in class, you can look out the window and easily see Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Monte Carlo, Paris, Aladdin, and many other casinos.

According to Lonely Planet's Las Vegas guide, UNLV is one of the least prestigious and competitive state universities in the whole country.

If you dont live in Nevada, it's not worth it.

Like the above poster said, UNLV's credentials are some of the worst in the entire country.

US News rated it a 4th tier college.

I applied there because they were gonna give me a ton of money. My thoughts were that it would be easy and I could party like hell and transfer after two years. My parents and I visited the college and it really wasn't like that. Most people go there for 6 years and work part time, so I don't think it's as much of the college atmosphere you want. I had an interview and my SAT score put me in their 400 level math course, and im no prodigy. The only reason I'd go there is if i wanted to get a fake and play poker 5 hours a day. My dad asked the woman that interviewed us why I should go there and the woman honestly paused for 2 minutes; mustering out the answer that "We're not up to par with the arizona states." Just my experience.

I've liked most of the UNLV people I've met. Maybe this is why. I dunno, the school is not so hot, but you gotta like a school that didn't lie and take itself too seriously. Priceless quote. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

For some reason running around on a soccer field in the Nevada 120 degree desert heat just doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun.
