Go ahead and stop the poll, I voted for Van Der Beek.

Affleck has been in terrible movies, but I don't think he's a terrible actor.

WTF is wrong with you noobs. Didn't you ever see Phantoms? Even if you didn't, it's CLEARLY James as the worse actor. Yes, we are instantly on a first name basis because he is so horrible. At least Affleck has been in major movies.

Edit: besides, he's SO dreamy.

I am so out of touch that I know nothing about these two. However, I think both of them should be guillotined.

Hey I'd hit the Dukester if I could. But only if she ditched her 1985 outifts and put on grown up clothes and did her hair first. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

If Affleck hadn't help write Goodwill Hunting, he'd still be sleeping on Damon's couch. He was thrown so many bones because of his co-writing. But that's what friends are for...

As afr as the Beek, well if you were 28 and able to play 18 I'd call that good acting.

I have only seen Beek in Dawson's creek, but Affleck has butchered every film I have seen him in, so he gets my vote.

I can't believe Affleck isn't stomping this poll. Not only does he really suck (in every film except maybe Changing Lanes, but that's arguable) -- I mean *really* suck -- but Van Der Beek actually has some range: have you people not seen "Rules Of Attraction?" The guy's got chops, just give him time. All he's done is a crappy TV show and you can't blame him for the writers of Dawson's Creek.

But you can blame Affleck for delivering those monologues in Bounce, Armageddon, Paycheck, and Forces of Nature. Remember Gigli? Yeah me neither.

Ben Affleck is an ok actor but an extremely poor selector of scripts/parts/jobs.

James Van Der Beek is an awful actor, so we can't really judge his script-selecting skills because he never gets offered anything good because he is such a bad actor.

I've never heard of the second guy either. I was expecting an Affleck vs. Keanu Reeves poll.

And why does Affleck stand around with his mouth hanging open all the time? That just bugs the hell outta me. Makes me wanna slap it shut and ask him if he's trying to catch flies.

Dustin Hoffman, most overrated actor ever IMO. He acts the exact same way in every role except when he played an idiot savant which was his only good performance.

Dude, did you see Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back? Van der beek earned a lot in my book for his performance. He was playing James van der beek, though.

So, perhaps....

Best Performance, James van der Beek: Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, playing himself.

Best Performance, Ben Affleck: Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, playing himself.

BusinessWeek Online - Jan. 5
By Ronald Grover

Smart People, Stupid Choices
Even powerful, savvy media moguls screw up sometimes. Plenty did in 2004 -- just ask Paul Allen, Rupert Murdoch, Brian Roberts, and others

Last year saw plenty of action in the media world. Rupert Murdoch won his decade-long battle to own a U.S. satellite service, using his 34% stake in DirecTV (DTV ) to become the planet's most powerful man in media. Former Disney (DIS ) board members Stanley Gold and Roy Disney stoked enough shareholder opposition to Michael Eisner that the CEO ultimately announced he would retire in 2006. NBC (GE ) took control of Universal Pictures, and Sony (SNE ), with the help of private-equity funds, bought the legendary MGM studio.

Those are just a few of the highlights. But the year had plenty of boneheaded moves, too. So, while other reporters have been compiling their Best Films, Best Moments, or Best Star Sighting lists, I decided to look at some of the worst decisions media heavy hitters made in 2004. With a nod -- and an apology -- to David Letterman, here are Power Lunch's Top Ten Bad Acts for Media Moguls in 2004:

10. Making any movie starring Ben Affleck. Even at the height of his short-lived superstardom, the 32-year-old Affleck was a good-looking, wide-smiling guy who needed a strong cast around him. Think about Armageddon and Pearl Harbor, two of his biggest hits. Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler, Josh Hartnett, and all those special effects couldn't have hurt. And remember that his Oscar -- a shared one -- was for screenwriting, not acting.

In 2004, however, the true Affleck shone through, proving that the spectacular failure of 2003's Gigli, co-starring ex-squeeze Jennifer Lopez, was more than a fluke. "Bennifer" didn't play well outside the tabloids, and even losing Lopez didn't restore Affleck's box-office appeal. He barely covered his $12.5 million salary in the Miramax film Jersey Girl, which had a $35 million budget and grossed only $22 million. As for Surviving Christmas, the $11 million gross barely covered DreamWorks' (DWA ) Friday-night marketing costs.

Affleck failed to capture his true self, IMO. A real disappointment.
