View Full Version : Labels for my chips...Ideas and where to go from here...(w/pic)

I saw someone else's posts about labeling their own chips. I came up with the idea for mana symbol chips from Magic:the gathering. Since I'm making them myself and not selling them I din't think Wizards will care /images/graemlins/ooo.gif. Anyway, here's what I've PS'd for the labels. Any ideas on how to make them better? Also, I know I need circular 1" labels for my 13g "casino" chips. Where can I get the protective spray that I've seen mentioned?

Here they are:

You can get info on the spray from Lynbark's (http://www.ciretech.com/lynbark/index.htm) FAQ page. You should be able to get that stuff at any craft or hobby store (I haven't looked yet). I just ordered custom labels from Lynbark and the whole process was great. I'll post pictures when I get the shipment.

1000 labels for $37 including shipping. He (she? - I never got a name) turned around custom designs from my draft ideas in a day. I'm sure they could take your ideas and make something great. Don't know how the cost compares with do-it-yourself.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the krylon website and it says that they have gloss and matte. The labels I were looking at buying are matte. If I apply gloss krylon will it have a strange result?

Also I redid the labels:

Not familar with Magic but I like the designs. I prefer the fading towards the center like in the 2nd set better... might even fade it a little more to see if it highlights the center graphics better.

Looks like there are some "sun spots" that make the graphic look dirty on my monitor... like the graphics are textured or something mostly on the yellow sun but also a little on the bottom of the red flame?? I'd have to see print proofs to see if it shows up (could just be my monitor??). Could be my monitor again but it seems like the yellow could be more yellow... looks a little pale on my monitor. You might consider checking with the label vendor if you don't do the printing on trying to match your chip colors as close as possible.

Might go adhead and crop out the graphics to simulate the circle 1" labels as opposed to the current square.

Might consider getting them laser printed on a quality vinyl label and avoiding the spray approach... don't have any links handy but I've seen quite a few posts on labeling... maybe more so on THP & ScottKeen forums.

I like the design keep us posted on your progress,
Fins

Thanks for the ideas Fins. I'm definitely going with the second set of images or some improvement on them.

Yeah, I tried to give a little texture to each of the images but it's not noticeable on all of them. Maybe I should take that out. I will and see how it looks.

I looked into the ScottKeen forums and found some good stuff there. If anyone has a link to where I can find quality vynal labels that would be great. I've found some but you have to by a lot of 6300 labels.

ok, took out the texture (I like it better now) and made them circular:

Anyone have any other ideas? I'm really liking how they're shapping up.

I'm with Fins. I've never touched a Magic card, but it's a cool elemental design nonetheless.

Isn't the 5th color white?

It's been a while for MtG for me!

I got Krylon Matte "preserve it" spray at JoAnn Fabrics. That is the spray Lynbark recommended. He said glossy is too shiny. I like the way mine turned out and the turnaround time was like nothing.

My only concern with the images would be the print resolution.

If this is the actual size of the image you will be uzing, you're only getting around 100 pixels/inch. They can be used, but the printouts may not look very sharp.

Wow,

I hope this works for you, it looks like they would be a real nice set.

I'm thinking of going with the label my own route as well.

I'm looking foward to the final results, and hopefully some detail instructions as far as getting the highest quality chip.

If you don't have labels yet I have some 15/16 ones I would sell for my cost plus 10% (my wife bought way more than I needed wholesale). Let me know and I'll check on what I paid (hell if I can recall).

I'm interested but I need 2000 labels and I want to get vinyl ones. What kind are yours?

If anyone else has extra vinyl ones, I'm interested in buying them.

Thanks,

Craig

I might be interested in some labels as well. Let me know what your price turns out to be.

It looks like it's going to be .55/sheet shipped for vinyl laser only labels. The min order is 100 sheets w/63 1" circle lables per sheet. I want 34 sheets so that leaves 66 sheets for others to buy. We can order more if need be. PM me if you want in on this as I don't mind organizing a group buy.

Hello All,
Long time lurker first time poster. The Label thing pulled me out of the woodworks. I will be labeling 500 Nexgen chips with the custom label displayed in my avatar. My plan is to have the background color of each label to match the edge spots on the chips...the label on my avatar is intended to go with the Red Nexgen chip that has purple edge spots.

Have yet to order the labels (or the chips, lol) but I will be purchasing both on Friday.

PS... And your avatar didn't show up here, for me anyways.

Welcome KY. To get your avatar to show up you have to host it somewhere on the itnernet, not on your c: drive. You can find free hosting at imageshack.us.

Maybe I should start a seperate thread about a group buy of vinyl laser labels...

Thanks Craig for the info, it is much appreciated....the avatar actually was visible when I inititally uploaded it, but I'm not sure what changed.

Thanks Fin /images/graemlins/confused.gif for attempting to give me a hard time on 2 message boards. Although I agreed with you on the other board (after examining my post) I do not see my intitial post here as a threadjack but as a contributiion to the topic and a indication of my excitement for my latest passion. As a bulletin board veteran (cigars), I am more than use to a faction of established members teaching the "newbies" a "lesson". So have at me Fin and enjoy, because at the end of the day I'll still be smoking cigars, playing poker and posting on message boards.

No problem KY. What fun is it if you can't give someone a hard time... /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Read your posts back-to-back... the "long time lurker" got me.

Good choice in passions & vices I see /images/graemlins/grin.gif

WARNING: Continued reading of this forum can lead to chip obsession.
