This is the movie about the couple that goes on a scuba-diving vacation and accidentally gets left behind by the boat to fend for themselves in the middle of shark-infested ocean. It is based loosely on actual events. Judging by the reviews on Netflix, people either love it or hate it. I loved it. I saw it last night and it has stayed with me all day today. If you're looking for a really good original psychological thriller that slowly builds and gets under your skin in a Hitchcockian fashion, I highly recommend it. But if you have to have special effects and car chases and explosions in order to enjoy a movie, best to skip it.

I don't like the snooty comment about car chases and explosions.

Not trying to be snooty. Just pointing out that there are many who are bored by films that do not feature constant sensory stimulation. Such folks will not like this film.

such folks that don't like uninteresting stories won't like this movie.

it's rare for me to notice bad direction 5 minutes into a film. the shots are random. why show rolling tires, or multiple shutting car doors, or any of a number of plainly bad cuts. the writing was marginal. the stage was not set well. without the anticipation of a shark movie no one would've stayed. the random character needing a face mask should have been rewritten out of the film or served some better purpose or at least provided decent color. the dialog in the water was as predictable as a porn film. she blows it. she chunks it. he blows it. they fight. they blow it. who didn't know what was going to happen? all the way through her hair and makeup remained perfect (they must've worked on that endlessly). the movie did not maintain suspense well. the end scene was handled poorly too.

decent movie for amateur film school. that's it.

I really wasn't sure what to think walking out of the theater. It's not something I cans ay I enjoyed, but it was interesting to say the least.

I disagree Matt. Direction like that implies the randomness of "real" life. At times I thought they pushed it over the top, but much of this was necessary to sell the effect of the movie. The guy needing a face mask was an example of that (and lets be honest they need stuff that will chew up time with this premise).

I can't find the link but if memory serves me my original 2+2 review was "By the end of the movie I was rooting for the sharks." /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I thought this movie sucked for all reasons previously mentioned.

I didn't really think BWP was all that scary. But I find the idea of floating helplessly in the ocean to be completely terrifying, thus I found OW to be much more effective on a psychological level.

Word. I watched most of the movie in 2x or 4x just to get through it. I'd slow it down when it looked like something was happening.
