I'm looking to get a digital camera before my first Vegas trip later this week.

I want something that can easily fit in my front pocket. 4-6 megapixel, around $300-$400, probably a Canon.

My current pick is the PowerShot S500.

I know very little about digital cameras, so I'd appreciate any advice.

I just got the Canon SD300 for Christmas and I love it. I am no photographer but it's a great little camera for what I use it for. 4.0 megapixel, 3.0 optical zoom, 3.6 digital zoom, good movie capibility, and a 2 inch LCD (pretty big for the size of the camera.)

The main reason I chose this camera is it's size. There are many digital cameras out there that have more megapixels, and a bigger screen but this thing fits in any pocket and looks cool at the same time.

be sure and buy more ram for it. i bought my wife the kodac easyshare cx7330 for christmas. it has 3.1 megapixels and fits in your pocket(barely). it was 175$ plus i paid 70$ for 512 mb of ram. now it holds about 500 pictures instead of about 20. after buying a nice carrying case my total walkout price was 305$. i was mainly after an easy to use camera with good quality pictures. the pictures are very good and it took 10 minutes to learn to use it. i am very satisfied withit.

ps:dont forget to get a battery recharger set when you buy your camera. i got one of these as well in that total price of 305$.

This may be too much information, but this website (http://dpreview.com) provides evaluations, reviews, and sample pictures.

I got the same camera for the exact same reasons and I like it a lot.

I did a lot of research before going in on the Olympus Stylus 410 (http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_product_lobbypage.asp?l=1&p=16&bc=27&product=9 57) with my mom for my sister's birthday last summer. I don't remember exactly what it was that made this my choice, but it's a great camera, it's small, hardy, and takes great pictures. It was clearly the best for the money at the time. I'd imagine either it, or if there's a newer version now, would be at least something to look at.
