i remember when i first started playing live 2/4 i read an article in i believe it was card player about how prop players were finding it "impossible" to beat their local 2/4 game due to the high rake. was this specifically because they were using an incorrect strategy or is this game really a -ev proposition? i know ive been winning at a pretty consistant rate, but i see pleanty of good players get wrecked playing these low limit games incorrectly. could that have been the fault of these prop players as well?

roughly $100 gets taken off the table every hour. With average stacks being around $100 each, how can playing these tables be a +EV for you?

Does it become +EV at 3/6 or must you go higher?

Part of it depends on the room. For example, Canterbury Park in Minnesota rakes 10% up to $4 on 2/4, 3/6 and 4/8. So obviously it's better to play 4/8 if possible because $4 is a much smaller proportion of the pot.

well, its clearly better than 2/4, but you are still loosing a lot to the rake. 4/8 is def the best "lower limit" in regards rake

most props aren't very good. otherwise, they wouldn't need to be props and play in shitty sh games.

Another example of rake issues comes from Canterbury as well. While the 4/8 rake is indeed proportionally better than the 2/4 or 3/6 rake it's when you move to 6/12 that you get the big bump. At 6/12 and higher they switch to a 5% up to 4 dollars rake (I think its up to 3 dollars at 15/30 and 30/60). This means you are in effect "saving" rake on both big and small pots.
