I have decided to concentrate primarily on SNGs. Here are my goals for 2005:

Ultimate goal: $300 per day average

To achieve this goal, I will play a mix of 20+2, 30+3, 50+5, 100+9, and 25+2, 55+5, and 105+9 SNGs on PokerStars, playing as high comfortable.

To reach the ultimate goal, I figure I need to play $1000 worth of SNGs per day at an average 30% ROI (or better if I play less).

I know my goals are high, but I also know that some people do much better than $300 per day on SNGs.

Good luck to all of you this year. Would love to hear from any winning player who concentrates on SNGs about their experiences.

Are you talking about the regular sitngos or the turbos? I prefer the regulars b/c I feel like they reward the tighter, more patient players (like moi), but it seems like a lot of the bad players have moved over to the turbos, causing the old sitngos to tighten up lately.

What is the plan for playing at different levels? Just to move up when you feel comfortable? What level are you at now and how many tournies have you played? I would suggest staying at your current level until you have at least 500 with a comfortable ROI. Your goal sounds achievable depending on the number of hours you plan to play a week. Are you doing this full time?

hitting 20% ROI at $55s, 4tabling 5 hrs a day with rakeback basically gets you there. Basically what I'm aiming at doing (I'm doing more tables though).

I play both turbo and regular. I find both are profitable. Your variance is higher in the turbos, but there seem to be a lot more bad players at the turbo than the regular the higher you play.

My bankroll is 3500. Yesterday, I won a 105+9 turbo, and finished 3rd in a 100+9 regular, so I feel comfortable bankroll-wise and skill-wise at these levels and below.

If you have signed up through an affiliate, you usually get around 20% of your rake back. So you get around $1 back for every $50+5 sng you pay.

$109 regular, that's at Stars right?

How do you find the skill level there compares to the $55s?

I'm not about to move up to $109s until I get at least 1k $55s in but that's gonna by the end of january anyway.

Yes, all I play is Stars. Generally, end game play is a little better at the 100+9 v 50+5. But the play at the 105+9 turbo can be terrible.

Not really sure what you mean by rakeback could you explain more thanks. I play at Party and haven't seen anything about it.

Ok. First of all, you have affiliates (I'm sure you know what they are, but I'll explain anyway). For online poker, these affiliates are referring players to online poker rooms, and in return the poker rooms give them a cut. All poker players pay vig to the house (poker room). This is the rake (house takes % of pot) in a ring game, or the fee (the $5 in a $50+5) in an sng.

The affiliate gets paid around 25% (I think) of the vig that the players have paid in rake or sng fees. To lure more players, alot of affiliates offer the player a slice of that (around 20%).

You get the same setups for other gambling sites (casinos, sportsbooks) where affiliates get a cut of players losses.

So by signing up at a poker room through an affiliate, you can make some more $$$. Not huge amounts for sngs, but it adds up.

I guess my first goal is to actually start playing poker again. Picked it up seriously for a week and haven't played since xmas. Maybe later today...

I checked the classifieds here, and while there are rakeback programs for Party and its affiliated sites, and UB, I don't see any offers for Poker Stars.

I do see on the Poker Stars webpage that they are hiring an online marketing manager to oversee an affiliate program, so maybe they are going to start one.

Anyone know of any existing Poker Star rake break program???

My goal is pretty feeble compared to all this. I want to concentrate on SnGs but first need to learn how to play them. So far played 4 ($2+0.5) and finished 5,5,6,2 so am down by $4 at the moment.

Think I am getting better, I just dont like calling all-ins when it could put me out (fine if Im the big stack), think I need to work on what hands I can do this and reading players

You are paying too much rake at 2+0.5. 25% rake is much harder to beat than 10%, and the players are just as bad at the 5+0.5 and 10+1. You need about 30 buy ins for a particular level.
