One more small narrative to finish off the year.

I have to tell you all something, that I know a lot of you won't believe. Outside of tournaments, I have never had a $1000 day.

December was an up and down month. The first part of the month, I seemed to run into an inordinate amount of two and three outers on the river, but I had two sessions, where I won a lot of hands, and noone ever caught up to me, so I had won about what I expected to, but at the same time, it was just from those two sessions, and the rest of the time I had played back and forth.

The third week, I caught a little hot streak, and won just about every day, so I was thinking that I was going to have a good month. Then the fourth week happened, and I lost just about every day, and I was back to where I was in the middle of the month. I don't think that I was playing poorly, but I just didn't catch any cards. My VPIP was down about 5%, when I did win, it seemed like it was a small pot, and I had a bunch of sessions, where I was winning 30-40% of my showdowns.

I just resigned myself to playing well, playing out my hands for the month, and to see where I was at the end of the year.

Then on the 30th, I played a 350 hand session, and won nearly $700. I entered my numbers in Statking, and saw that I was about $1000 below my expectation for the month, and I thought, that's nice, but I've never had a $1000 day, so I guess I will just miss my goals for the month.

I came home from work on the morning of the 31st, and played a 300 hand session on True Poker, and ran very well winning $265 on one table, and $88 on another. I thought well, at least I won't miss by that much, and maybe I will have time to play a little this evening, because I don't think we were going to be going out.

So this evening, my wife and son went to sleep early, so I logged onto UB, and all of the full games at 5-10 and 10-20 were running fairly tight, with small pots, but there was one 5-10 6-max game that had an average pot in the high seventies, and it was only five handed. Game on! I grabbed the seat, and it turns out that the three players to my right were all fairly commited maniacs.

I just played tight, and waited for value betting opportunities, which I usually got three bet on, and then had to decide whether or not I wanted to cap it, or raise a later street.

As I was playing this game, I noticed that one of the 5-10 games had loosened up, and this one was nine handed, so I took a seat there.

Anyway, after about an hour and a half, and 220 hands, the maniacs had all left the 6-max table, and I was ahead $441 on that game, and $304 on the full game.

I decided that having my first $1000 day and at the same time making my goal for the month was a good time to quit, and have a new years drink.

Happy New Year,
Play well,
Good luck,

Bob T.

At this point, I'd gladly settle for a $1000 month. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Outstanding, and thanks for sharing the story. Things like that do give us 2/4 guys that are just starting out even more motivation to improve our game to the point where we can do more than dream about that kind of a payday.

Happy 2005!!

Congrats!

I moved up to $5/10 6-max this month and had my first $1000 day as well this week. Three of them in a row in fact /images/graemlins/grin.gif. Can't wait for the $1000+ downswings...

Happy New Year.

i know how it feels. i had my first $2200 day this week. i took a shot at the $5/$10 6 max and just couldn't stop catching cards.

with the exception of a tournament, i don't believe i've ever won more than maybe 6 or 7 hundred in a day before.

I completely agree. I normally play 1/2 with ocassional shots at 2/4 where lose the rake, but it's getting better. I can't wait.

Bob,

I would just like to say congratulations to you and thanks for being one of the best posters that contribute to this forum on a regular basis. It is quite surprising you haven't hit a 1000$ day, but its also a nice reality check for the rest of us posters just learning to grind it out at the lower limits. Here's to new beginnings and new goals!

Happy New Year!!!

Hey Bob, congrats. I played 5/10 full as my primary game for about 11 months and I never had a $1000 day. Now I didn't play nearly as much as many on this site, but I still never hit that mark. (Thankfully I never lost that much in a day either, although my very first day of 5/10 I dropped about 900).

You'll get that 1000 day eventually. I finally did it within the last couple weeks (playing 15/30 helped /images/graemlins/grin.gif)

You must not play in casinos all too often eh?

Congratulations though and a happy new year to you as well!
