I'm programming a little "tourney helper" for myself. It looks like this:

When it's done I'm planning on making it open-source but I'm looking for any input. Please leave some. Thanks

If anyone would like to beta test this, the link to download is here: http://s15.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3NK6BS6JLBBBM2DJGAOP9N0EM5

It's only gonna be up for a few days so please test it and send any feedback to me, paulsugar2@yahoo.com. Thanks

Looks cool, but i can't get it working. Not all of us have PP installed on the C drive. If i edit PP's path in the .ini file manually, the program overrides it at startup.

Possible to fix that?

It shouldn't override anymore.

Known bugs:
"Shown hands" doesn't include losing all-in hands.
The flops seen denominator is screwed.

Sadly, I am losing a lot of money testing my program in real-time so I would appreciate it if people could beta test it and email me the bugs.

Frankly... That isn't really a very good sales argument /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyways, i got it working, i'm trying it for an SnG right now. I have a couple of wishes so far:

When i click the "update" button, i'd like the highlighted players data to show again automatically, so the players listbox shouldn't loose focus.

What does the "No busted" checkbox do?

The "Monitor" item in the File menu says it can't find a tourney window even though i've got one opened.

Couldn't it update automatically, maybe a couple of times a minute, and then still keep the Update button in case of emergencies?

I'd like some colors for the actions so it's faster to seperate called, fold and raise.

That's it for now, good work.

I get no data, just an error message that says "Couldn't find a tourney window"

OS: Win2K SP4
Firewall: ZoneAlarm Pro
Party software is installed on the G: drive. Also running Spybot and AVG Antivirus.

Clicking "Monitor" makes the program refresh the data every 10 seconds.

The "No busted" checkbox ignores all of the busted players.

Sorry if it says it couldn't find a tournament window. API (finding windows) is not an area of my expertise because I've never taken any programming classes.

Things I'm currently working on:
-Making it refresh so it doesn't lose focus
-Adding colors
-Adding more statistics

Also, I'm thinking of assigning players characteristics according to their preflop actions. i.e. "Tight" or "Calling station" etc. but don't know how to classify them. I'm thinking:
Tight: 0-10% flops seen
Semi-tight: 10-30%
Semi-loose: 30-40%
Loose: 40%-100%

Is that a good standard for SNG's?

Thanks for all the input so far.

Regarding finding windows, this KB article might help you: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/147659, i suspect that you're seeking for any Party window, and therefore don't need a function that takes an exact window title.

Regarding more statistics, i'd prefer not. I'm using PT in conjunction with Playerview which gives me a read of the players VP$IP and aggression factor.

But VP$IP isn't really that much worth in a SnG, because it changes so much from level to level. And even if you filter it by limit, you have too little data to make any usable reads.

What i really like about the program is to use it intensively in the first three levels. The ability to easily see what hands they played, combined with the VP$IP of PT gives me a quick read of the player types, which is all i really need. I could do without the hand actions listbox.

I'd like just to be able to see the hands that they've played, and what they've done with those. I don't care about the hands i don't know.

Please don't take this as a "i don't like your app" reply, it's just that i believe the app is really useful, for a single purpose. At least if you combine it with PT and maybe Playerview / GT+.

This must be that new thing I've been hearing about... Beta Testing on Steroids. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Cool. I didn't know about Playerview until your response, Orca. I'm assuming it works with SNG's and I understand that it tells you the players' VP$IP and aggression factor in real time. But Pokertracker isn't real-time, is it? (I am not registered, if that matters any)

I'm trying to gain as much of an edge as possible in SNG's, even if it means making programs for myself, so I'd appreciate any advice regarding improvement.

Playerview just shows the PT data in real time. PT updates as regularly as you want it to, mine updates every 2 minutes.

You can download PT and try it out for 1000 hands, that should be plenty for some tourneys.

How difficult would it be to make it work with multiple sites?

Could it save the records of each player into a searchable database?

Could it display the hand that you just folded?

Could it do percent to make hand and/or pot odds?

I have a system when I raise and on one level I raise by 2.5 x BB, could you include some sort of calculator so this could be done more quickly?

And I know I am dreaming on this, could you have something that would display the best possible hand.

Well, for now I only play on one site (Party).

You might wanna look into Pokertracker to save players into a database.

And.. I don't really understand the other questions. Email me with your specific questions: paulsugar2@yahoo.com

The only thing I'd add (I never test for anyone because I don't trust anyone, nothing personal) is for ratings of players you could use a different rating for each blind limit and change the rating when the blinds change.

Rock tight aggressives can easily become LAGs later on in the game.

What language are you developing it in? Can you share the source before you are finished? I'm sort of a programmer, but Windows development is outside of what I usually do. I'd be interested in working on this as long as I don't have to get some $1000 developer version of VB studio or something like that.

I tried this little program out all day as I played and here are some general thoughts...

Nice idea. More useful than I thought it would be, mostly just because I could get a much bigger picture of who were fish and who were not

Cumbersome when playing multiple tables on a small monitor. The program seems to place itself above all other windows at all times and that meant I needed to put 4 running versions of this program overlapping just to not cover up the 4 running (overlapping) tourneys I was playing.

The preflop actions log is almost useless. I'd prefer a simple % breakdown (fold, check, call, raise, all-in, etc...)

the need to hilight specific players was more consuming than I would like. I'd prefer very concise stats for all players listed at all times right beside their names so that I didn't need to click anything ever. I'd just need to look over and see.

Even just something like:

PlayerA F75% C15% R5% P5%

(with F,C,R,P indicating preflop folding, calling, raising, or pushing)

I suppose hands shown would also be useful if I did choose to hilight an individaul player, but I'd also like to immediately know what position they played those hands from and maybe some info about what they did with the hand. I found I kept seeing a list like

Ah Kc
Jc Js
5c 5h
Kc Qc
As Js
7s 3h

and I'd think whats up with 73o? then I'd check his preflop action and that hand and see that it was a check from the BB. I'd prefer if each hand just included the position right beside it. I'd also like to see a letter code indicating how they played the hand.

There is really a lot that could be done with this and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Regards
Brad S

Thanks for the input. I will take everything into account as I develop it, but I'm going to take a little break from programming for a bit. It's written in VB 6 so if anyone wants to stab at it, email me for the source.
