Easypete and his wife Ugadawg came down to Louisiana for some passivetothemax 4-8 poker at Paragon Casino in Marksville.

I arrived tuesday afternoon about 2 hours before they did and found out that the poker room was closed on tuesday?!?!?! I called Easy, he is not happy.

They arrive and we settle in for some $3 blackjack and lukewarm house beer. Easy asks to see the casino manager because he's pissed about the poker room being closed. I was pissed too, but he's got bigger balls than me. The manager arrives, and Easy vents his frustration. The manager COMPS Easy and Uga's room BOTH nights and comps me one night(since I didn't drive as far). I won $30 and they won $20...er....his wife won $100 and he lost $80. Then we ate some rubbery alligator and called it a night.

The next day we met up at the poker room. Here is the ALMOST jackpot story....drumroll please. At Paragon casino the bad beat jackpot is Quads beaten by Quads or better with both hole cards playing. There is a "mini" jackpot of 10% if Aces full of Tens or better is beaten by Quads. Jackpots pay 50% for the loser, 25% for the winner, and the rest split amongst the other players. The current jackpot is $24,000.

Easy raises preflop and Uga 3-bets. There are the usual 18 callers, but I fold this one. The flop comes down A /images/graemlins/club.gif 3 /images/graemlins/club.gif A /images/graemlins/spade.gif Easy bets, Uga raises, a "regular", lets call him IDIOT on my left calls, and I think 2 other call. Turn is A /images/graemlins/heart.gif Easy bets, Uga calls, the IDIOT calls, one fold, and another call as 4 go to the river which is J /images/graemlins/heart.gif Easy checks, Uga checks, IDIOT checks, and now the other player wakes up and bets. Here's where the fun begins.

Uga now Check-raises. Easy just nods his head back and forth in approval, and I smile knowing she just layed the hammer down on the table. The IDIOT hems and haws for 10 seconds and then shows me his pocket 10's. It doesn't quite register in my brain what he has because I was still in awe at Uga's brilliant check-raise. IDIOT then flashes his cards to his friend on his left as he TOSSES THEM TO THE MUCK! It was like a movie scene, in slow motion his friend cries out, "Noooooooooooooooo.", as the cards shoot their way perfectly into the middle of the muck. The other player calls, Easy folds and Uga turns over A /images/graemlins/diamond.gif K /images/graemlins/club.gif.

IDIOT would have won $1,200, Uga $600, and the rest of us $75 each. Of course the guy got ragged relentlessly for the next 2 hours. They were even talking about it the next day in the room.

I finally got a seat change and sat next to Easy for the rest of the session. Then, THIS hand comes up.

Easy raises pre-flop with J /images/graemlins/diamond.gif J /images/graemlins/heart.gif and gets the usual 47 callers. The flop comes J /images/graemlins/spade.gif 4 /images/graemlins/club.gif 6 /images/graemlins/spade.gif Easy bets, and 3 players call. I start to tease him that the spade is coming on the river and he's gonna lose. The turn is a BLANK. Easy bets, and 1 player stays with him. I again tease him that the spade is coming and the river is 4 /images/graemlins/spade.gif Easy CHECKS! The fish checks and Easy wins with his FULLHOUSE that he checked on the river cause he was so worried about the flush after I teased him.

The rest of the day we pretty much ran the table. Easy won over $100, Uga took some beats but battled back, and I won about $150.

They left the next morning, and I found my way back to the poker room. I played 4-8 for about 2 hours and the deck was hitting me in the face as I was up nearly $150. 5 tourists from Dallas came in and wanted to play 10-20. 5 of us from 4-8 joined in and I proceeded to lose the $150 plus another $300 before throwing in the towel and heading back home.

I don't get it. On the first hand the guy with 10's only had 2 pair /images/graemlins/confused.gif You get a bad beat jackpot for losing with 2 pair?

3 aces on the board gave him Aces full of tens. She had Quad aces with a King kicker.

Not to criticize, but if she (or anyone) had quads on that board, which is a perfect board for jackpot, the typical line is to bet out and let anyone with a loan J in their hand fold and allow the pocket 10s or higher to call one bet. Its just BBJ etiquette.
