Red cross is saying 77,000 right now.

I'm pretty sure it will top 100,000 and may hit 200,000 if you count deaths from typhoid, cholera and malaria, dehydration and starvation in the aftermath. Actually, we will probably never have an exact count of the deaths from the tsunami itself, as it is now becoming much more important to get the bodies buried than to count or identify them.

its also likely that Indonesia and Thailand won't say the correct amount either, as it may effect their tourism /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If anything I think countries would exagerate their numbers to try and get more aid. It's not like tourists don't know about this tsunami.

People won't think, "I'll take this trip to Thailand if only 70,000 eople die, but if more than 100,000 people die, it's probably too dangerous."

Over 125,000 now. Disease posing major threat to survivors. Very likely more than 100,000 more could die within the next week if efforts aren't stepped up drastically to rush in clean water and meds. Children at greatest risk. Epidemics apparently very likely given the shortage of clean water, clean food, and meds. Help is desperately needed.
