View Full Version : Ax in big blind

I've had the following scenario a ton lately and would like to know if I'm playing this wrong.

I have Ax in the big blind, there are a couple of callers and I check. Flop has an ace, otherwise uncoordinated.

My standard play is to check/call down to the river unless the board gets scary and the action heats up. For a while I was playing this hand more aggressively but it seemed that if my opponenets didn't fold immediately I was always losing to a better ace or they were slow playing a monster. By check/calling I lose the minimum when I'm behind and I get two extra big bets by inducing a bluff when I'm ahead. Of course if it gets checked around, I come out betting in the next round.

Is this a decent strategy or am I on crack?

You may want to consider going for a checkraise. This will really help you define your hand and decide if your A is good. Against 1 or 2 opponents you can often just check/call but against a larger field there is more chance of another A being out there and therefore more value in finding that out earlier.
