View Full Version : My foray into $2/4 (long, low content)

After reading your goals for 2005, I decided to think about my own. The 1st thing I decided was it was time to move up to $2/4. I had the BR between 3 sites of about 500 BB's, but I was trying to accumulate 300 BB's on each site before moving up. That wasn't happening fast enough though.

Another reason for not moving up (I had been full time at $1/2 for about 4 to 5 months) was my win rate at $1/2. Compared to what I see posted on the forums, mine ...well sucked. 1.6 for 17,000 hands from the time I got PT in Sept thru the end of Nov. 20.68 VPI 6.71 PFR. I think too many crying calls and being too aggressive on missed flops.

Putting that aside I decided as of 12/01/04 that I was a "$2/4" player. Most of the time I played 2 tables at Party and 1 table at Pacific. The 1st weekend went real well as I was up 100+ BB's. After that I stayed on pretty much an even pace, up 1 day down the next. Then in the middle of the month went on a downswing. Lost about 25 BB's on my birthday, that wasn't nice. Then I played even for a few days and contemplated going back to $1/2. But I decided to finish out the month and re-evaluate before the 1st of the year. This last week I've seen more than my share of good cards and the majority have held up. I'm trying not to let the cards fool me into thinking that I'm any good at "hold'em" , but I do believe that I can make $$ of those who suck worse than I do. While I try to feast on the few who are worse than myself I will continue to read this forum and try to improve my game.

You ask, "What's the point of this post? The main point is to just say "THANK YOU" to all you posters who take the time to help everyone else with their game. Thanks again to you all, and I hope your 2005 goals come through for you.

For anyone still reading (as I hear crickets chirping), here are my $2/4 stats since Dec 1.
6,045 hands, 18.59 VPI, 5.41 PFR, won $at SD 56.43,
winrate 2.49 BB's/100. Happy New Year.

Congrats on a good month.

Try to get that PF Raise % up a bit. Shoot for maybe 7.5 - 9.

Congrats, keep up the good work, and try and find more places to raise preflop.

I suspect that you probably aren't raising suited broadways for value often enough, and you also might be open limping frequently.

Good luck,
play well,

Bob T.

Good job, keep working on your game. Like the others, you need to be raising more preflop. Look for opportunities to isolate one or two weak limpers with position. If a couple of any two cards will do type players limp to you in late position, raise with a wider range of hands.

Thanks for the replys. I will try to find more preflop raising opportunities.

Best of luck in the 2-4 game. Does anyone else think his showdown winning percentage is unsustainably high?

You don't need 300BB to move up to the next level. Move up, take your shots, if it doesn't work out, move back down. As long as your ego will let you move up and down to find limits you can beat, it's silly to stay too long in lower limit if you can beat a higher limit for close to the same winrate.

Yes, but its only 6000 hands.

Hold on a sec - I'm W$SD% 57.97% (18.36 VPIP 7.5PFR) over 23390 hands at 3/6 the last three months. What am I supposed to infer from that stat? That I call down and payoff too infrequently? Or I'm running well and my win rate won't be sustained? Or something else?

Yes.(to the first question) Ideally, you should have W$SD around 50-55%. I imagine your fold to river bet is a little high.

Congrats.
And the most important lesson we all learn is:
don't play on your birthday.
seriously, I played on 2 of my birthdays before, on lost on both. I guess it's the mind set the birthday puts you in.
