View Full Version : Are these Chips Good Enough?

I'm just looking for a *decent* set of 500 or more chips; enough for 1-table home tournaments, but potentially sufficient to cover the occasional 2-table event if necessary.

My friend got a set identical to this one, but paid significantly more for it. Do you guys think that: (1) this chip set will suffice for my needs; and (2) that the price is right?

Also, if anyone can tell me where to find a better deal than this one, I'd appreciate it.

What about these instead?

By the way, I know that both sets are definitely low-grade, but I'm not looking to make a big investment; I'm just curious as to whether either of these sets are competitively priced and/or sufficient to meet my needs.

I think "free" is the best option for chips like that. Find an affiliate promo, play ~200 raked hands, and in a month you'll have your chips.

Easy... and cheap. I have about 1500 chips from doing affiliate promotions.

Do you know of any current promotions like that?

You can definitely get better deals on dice chips ( http://www.niagarapokersupply.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=32 ). And, of course, there's always ebay if you want to wait.

I think 500 chips w/ a 4-color breakdown may not be enough to run 2 full (10 plyrs) table tourneys but certainly adequate for 1 table or 2 small table though you can probably work it out. You may be happier with a 650 chip set for two full table setups. Check out homepokertourney.com (http://www.homepokertourney.com) if you haven't already.

I've seen 11.5g's out there that are slicker than others and the ones at Costco felt like the better of the two. If you have a little more in your budget I like the Nexgen's (http://www.5stardeal.com/deals/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=10-8000-650SDX) better for feel. If you don't mind solid color chips the dimonds or 10g faux chips (can check out both at 5star) are a much more economical way to go... be a close call for me but I'd probably go the 11.5g composite route and search for info on custom labeling (adds 5-6¢ a chip)... here's one thread posted again recently
Label Thread (http://www.scottkeen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=495)... there's definitely more info out there, check the forums (e.g. here, scottkeen, & THP).

All that aside the Costco set is probably quick & easy and not a bad price... probably could do a little better on e-bay but not that much and you run the risk of getting the slicker chips IMHO.

Hey 3rdeye,

You may want to check your local MC Sports if you have one, my local MC had those same exact sets for $39.99 before Christmas.
