That movie was pure torture. I couldn't make it through it. The people in that movie were so worthless. I literally couldn't force myself to watch it. There is something wrong with MTV. They love worthless nerds way too much.

Interesting, I guess all the people that love it (there has to be a lot here) aren't on right now. I saw it back when it first came out. I thought it was alright but I think it was a little let down for me because one of my friends saw it and was hyping it a ton. I also thought the quotes were hilarious and I had already read thru the good ones a few times online which I'm sure contributed some to my let down.

Overall I thought it was decent, I didn't hate it, but I had no urge to run out and see it again.

I suggest renting it first. It is a very off the wall movie. I enjoyed it when I first saw it. It's very ridiculous.

Yea, the people I talked to either totally loved it, or totally hated it. I was most definitely part of the latter group. I think people are so desperate to find an offbeat 'quirky' movie that makes them 'cool', that they proclaim any strange and quite frankly crappy, movie as brilliant, when in reality it's a steaming pile of turd.

Am I the only one that thought that movie was hysterical? My friend gives my a copy of it and I'm like "I've never even heard of this movie". I take it home and we were all cracking up at some of the scenes. He reminded me of Butthead.

i enjoyed it thoroughly. Its not some overblown deep indie film, nor is it an action-packed blockbuster. Its a well made film with archtypal characters who are very well written. The dance seen at the end is possibly the funniest moment in film ive seen in a few years. However, i easily identify with all the characters, and the comedic sense of the movie is very in tune with my own. I would suggest at least renting the movie and judging for yourself. At the very least, you will pick up some great lines to quote. For a personal testimony, i only have one downloaded movie on my computer thats not porn, and its this one. I also pre-ordered my copy of the dvd.

I thought it was great. The quotes are what makes it classic.

"Back in 82 I could throw a football a quarter mile."

"This is the worst video ever made"

"Theres a lotta gangs at this school, one of them wanted me bad because I'm pretty good with a bow staff"

"You need to come get your stuff out of my locker I can't fit my nunchuks in there anymore"

Damnit, now I'm going to have to watch that scene. I cut our just when they got to the dance.

I'll admit there were some lines that in retrospect are funny like:

"I see you're drinking 1% milk. Is that because you think you're fat? You're not. You could be drinking whole milk, if you want to."

Everyone is a pathetic loser and if you like this humor you will consider it the best movie of all time. If you don't like that humor, you will be like me... in PAAIIIINNNN!

The randomly inserted scene with the cow and the schoolbus did make me laugh though.

Tell us what you think after you watch it. I think the best part of that movie is going to be seeing peoples reactions afterwards. I find the variety of reactions rather interesting.

The characters in the movie are just perfect. Maybe you have to be a student to appreciate it, but the whole thing is damn funny. The best part is when Kip runs over the plastic tupperware set /images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I thought it was hilarious - but I think you need to go in with the right attitude. There is some high comedy in there.

"What's she look like?" "Well she's got a pretty good face...Sandy blonde hair..I'm just a little ticked she hasn't sent me a full body shot yet!"

"It's getting pretty serious...we talk like 2 and a half hours every day online."

"What's that?" "It's a liger...a combination of a lion and a tiger...it's pretty much my favorite animal.."

All of these are much funnier in their actual voices, too.

We rented this lastnight, as a lover of real bizarre movies, I thought it was okay, I'm not rushing out to buy it for my collection.

There was some funny one liners as pointed out in the thread.

My mother is a middle school principal, she found it amusing for the fact that she said Napoleon reminded her of half the kids in her school.

I think this is a movie I might enjoy more if I took about 5 bong rips first.

i love the fact that they never explain his name in the entire movie.

I saw this thread and was surprised to see many naysayers. I don't remember instantly liking a movie as much as this one. And it's flipping PG!

The casting is terrific and the humanity of the characters is astounding. I definitely feel, however, that growing up in rural surroundings significantly adds to one's enjoyment of this film. Being a geek or former geek probably helps as well.

I'm astonished that MTV had something to do with something I enjoy.

IndieMatty

MTV distributes these independent movies all the time. There's more but I remember Election was also an "MTV" movie.

I appreciated the offbeat humor. It reminded me alot of Wes Anderson's brand of comedy (The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, etc.).

As as film, I think it wandered too much to be really enjoyable. Definitely overrated.

Oh god, don't even get me started on 'Garden State'.... now, this was certainly a good movie (far, FAR better than Napoleon), but I do not understand what all the hype was about, and all the word of mouth. It was a good movie, period. Not great, not fantastic, just good.

Saw it 3 times in the theater.

If you dont like this kind of immature comedy then you will hate it because it has no balance in it. It has all one kind of humor non-stop so it is packed with comic brilliance or there is nothing in it for you. I for one loved it. And if you want a page of quotes i have almost a complete list of the good ones in my AIM profile from a long time ago thats still there (Murn214).

Yeah, this movie is not everyone's brand of comedy. I wouldn't say that it's filled with intelligent humor, but it's one of those movies that mostly smart people like.

I'm having a hard time believing that this many people genuinely don't like this movie. C'mon, just because people rave about a movie doesn't mean you have to have such high expectations. Lighten up and enjoy it for what it was!

honestly, the first time i watched this movie, I was like...uh that was ok. but then I started thinking about some of the stuff after the movie, and didnt realize how funny it was until then.

I really dug this movie. Saw it in the theater 3 times. And I had to go quite a ways to find a theater that showed it. But the first time I saw it I knew it wasn't for everybody. So I knew out of my friends who would like it and who wouldn't like it, and when I went to see it again I only brought the ones who would like it.

I will say that I don't think its as good on TV as it is in the theater with everybody else who is watching it for the first time. But regardless if its not your kind of movie, you're not gonna like it.

For anyone that did like it though, check out these soundboards.

I totally missed this thread the first time around. I just saw this movie last night.

I'm usually entertained by inane conversation and subtly funny one-liners, but I have never enjoyed watching a movie less than this one.

My girlfriend, on the other hand, really liked it. I'm considering breaking up with her over it. It was that bad.
