I'm about to go buy a new monitor. I want to 4-table Party. I've heard difference of opinion about wether you need 1280x1040 or 1600x1200.

1280x1024 is not enough. you need 1600x1200.

If you have the money for it, go for the 1600x1200. I four table on a 1400x1250 laptop screen no problem, as i dont mind the overlap at all.

So 1600x1200 is the consensus. I just folded jacks with no overcard cause of the damn overlap. A month ago I folded trips on the flop cause of the same thing. I'm using a really small monitor and the buttons keep popping up as I'm clicking somewhere else. I decided I already lost half the cost of the screen from mistakes so I might as well get it.

you wont regret it. if you want a flat screen, you can get the dell 2001FP on ebay with shipping for like 650 or so. that is much cheaper than the comparable samsung 21"er.

good luck

I play four on 1280, and it's never been a problem for me. That said, I'd love to have a 1600 if I could.

I think those that say the overlap won't affect them are wrong. Although the action on an individual hand can be easy enough to follow, sometimes there is important informationi in other games that will be missed. For example, with overlap you may be focusing on a hand that you are in and not see another table where the river gets capped and some goof turns up no pair. You may be in a hand with aforementioned goof on the very next hand and lay down a decent hand on the turn to a raise not realizing how bad he is.

Get 1200X1600. It will pay for itself soon enough.

well said surfdoc.

i agree completely. at least the 1600 gives you the chance to follow every hand. now whether you do or not, depends. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

1600x1200 for 4 tables and no overlap.

hi,

to 4 table effectively, your monitor must support 1600x1200 or higher resolution.

i 8-table or more regularly, overlaping will hurt your bottomline.

1600X1200 gets you no overlap, even a sliver of extra space, and 1400X1050 gets you reasonable overlap (you'll have to strategically select seats so you can see your cards at all 4 tables. 1280X1024 and it gets a little more difficult.

I still get a little overlap with my new monitor (19" Sceptre flatscreen - $300 at Sam's Club) at 1600x1200 - but it's made a world of difference.

if you get even a little overlap w party or empire skins, then its not a 1600x1200.

I'm not much for tech knowledge, hopefully there's a pseudo-techie among us.

I can fit 4 tables onto my desktop screen when setting display to the smallest appearance, however, my laptop doesn't have a 1280x1024 option, and even two tables overlap a good bit.

If I buy a monitor to hook up to my laptop, will a larger screen actually get me more resolution options (meaning will the laptop display settings realize there is a monitor hooked up), or will I just be able to see what's on the laptop screen in even bigger detail?

And I guess the simplest question might be...from display properties, on the settings tab, is there any way to increase the 'screen resolution' options from what defaults?

Thanks!

if you are running windows xp the other moniter will be an extention of your desktop, meaning you can have four tables with no overlap on a 19" CRT set at 1600 x 1200 and have the lobby etc. on the laptop screen and see all at once. You can drag windows from one to the other and the mouse curser moves across also. It's a pretty good setup, one I used full time for almost a year before going to a desktop with 2 19" monitors to play 8 tables with no overlap.

thanks!

the problem is i don't even have a 1600x1200 option for resolution. i think 1024x768 is the max. crazy no? it is xp, and sounds like even without higher res i can get 4 tables onto the two screens.

tx again.

you dont have the option becouse the monitor isn't hooked up. When it is the options for all the resolutions the monitor will support will be there.
