They were cool 20 years ago.

30 years ago we'd make fun of kids who wore them. They were the cheap no-name brand back then, and we called them and any other really cheap sneakers "Skips". Apparently there was really a brand called Skips.

I use to wear Converse high tops when I was in like 3rd grade. I loved those things. I still wanna get a pair, but they're like, $50 shoes now. [censored] that. I've never paid more than $20 for a pair of sneakers in my life and I don't plan on starting now.

They're anti-cool, which makes them cool. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

your time line is way off. The most recent that chuck all-stars were popular was probably 15 years ago.

I voted cool.

I don't own any now and I've wanted to get some but as someone else said, they're way too expensive right now.

I used to wear them back when I was young, like 3rd - 7th grade, maybe even a pair in high school. And I'm only 22, so that was probably early 90's. I think they are still cool.

Well, I almost never wear sneakers except when I'm working out or playing basketball or something. So if I buy a pair of sneakers, I get the cheapest pair I can find, 'cause honestly, who cares?

Not in the UK.

Your ankles, knees, lower back, and probably something else I'm forgetting.

If it's cool in the UK, it's not cool. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

They were cool in the late 60's when I was playing High School basketball but at $8 a pair kind of expensive. Fortunately, there was a factory outlet store in Hudson, MA that sold the rejects for $4.

So before the season started we'd all pile into a car and drive to Hudson which was only about 25 miles away and get out sneakers for the season. The coolest thing about the place was that right at the entrance they had Bob Lanier's sneakers hanging on the wall, size 23, if memory serves.

Actually, I've never had any type of joint problems because of my cheap sneakers. I mean, the $20 sneakers I usually get are $20 because they're either unpopular or ugly and they're on sale, not because they're shitty sneakers. What I meant was that I don't care how they look so long as they're functional. Most expensive sneakers that I've seen aren't expensive because they're particularly good, they're expensive because they look good and there's a market for them. I'd rather spend $20 on a decent pair of Reebok running shoes than $50 on a pair of Nikes that are just as good.

Except that Reebok's tend to fall apart rather quickly while Nike's seem to last forever.

An oxymoron. Depending on your foot type, Nike and New Balance make much better running shoes.

I've actually never had a problem with a pair of reeboks. Then again, for $20, I don't have a problem buying a new pair if I need to. /images/graemlins/grin.gif
