View Full Version : Online Poker -- Recommendations?

I'm doing my research into internet poker sites to see which one I might want to join. I've read a lot posted here about Paradise. Has anyone had experience with UlitimateBet.com or any of the other sites? Anything I should look out for when joining?

Thanks!

Online poker is not a viable option. Stick to real casino poker and save yourself a lot of trouble.

How do you know Planet and Paradise have honest reputations?

I think online poker is at least as good as casino poker and even better is some aspects. The rake is lower and you don't have to tip. A 5 hour session online is equal to about a 10 - 12 hour casino session due to the Hands/hour. I can be near my family and I don't have to smell some one's shitty cigar (I smoke cigars, but not the shitty ones I see in my cardroom). For a winning player this offer many advantages. I agree that casino poker is more enjoyable, I like to read people and get into their heads, but some of us live far from a good cardroom. All-in-all I have enjoyed my online playing and believe that it has many positives over the casino game. Comments encouraged, thanx!

I play mostly at poker.com. They have 50 matchplay,a high hand jackpot of 250 and a badbeat jackpot of 2000. The games are softer than most sites. The software is kind of junky and slow and often there very few people playing, but the dealers are helpful and I have cashed out several times with no problems.

good luck,

I'm going to go against everyone and say that Paradise is not a good place to start. While I believe it is honest and they have sent checks in a timely fashion, the games are much tougher than the other sites. Also, since there are sooo many players, it is tough to get a feel for a game because:

A: You have proabably never seen a lot of the players at your table except for in the 20-40 and the 10-20 heads up. Also if you think you are going to play 10-20 HU, you'd better be pretty good because some of those players are outstanding.

B: People switch in and out so fast the game can be very inconsistant.

C: Because of the vast range in skill levels at people in all limits above 1-2 or so, variance seems to be very high.

Most of the games are beatable, but I think you have to be used to the internet style of poker to even have a chance there.

The smaller sites allow you to get to know the people you play against, which is a major advantage if you want to be a winning player. The games are also softer, and if you like to play short, it is easy to get a short game going that stays short for more than 5 mins. I used to play on Poker.com, which offered good games and was always very good about cashouts, but their software was not the best. Of the sites I play on now, I would recommend UltimateBet.com. They are good with cashouts, and they offer very good promotions, second only to highlands club. Their software is also very nice.

Godspeed.
