View Full Version : So, what did you get (and give) for the holidays?

I'm starting the thread early because I got some presents on Christmas eve. Year before college, parents split for a long time, you get the idea /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Anyways, I've gotten a 5 month membership to Gold's gym, $130 in gift cards for Galyan's (a sporting goods store), $20 at the local bookstore, and a bitchin' $40 blanket for college. Plus some scratch-off lottery tickets, with which I won zero money /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I also gave some wireless headphones to my dad and a Josh Groban CD to my grandmother. And that's only Christmas eve! Hoorah!

What did you get (and give) for the holidays?

So far I've gotten a nice money clip, a kick-as[/b]s pewter mini-keg and shot glass set. I'll get more in about 4 hours.

I don't give Christmas, since I think it goes against the spirit of the holiday - greed.

What'd you get for Hanukkah, then? (forgive me if I'm being ignorant)

Think I'm gonna get a pair of working headphones.

My mum gave me £20.

Got: nothing.

Gave:

To my niece:

1 of the 3 anime she wanted, one was actually borderline Japanese porn (but she didn't realize that), so she doesn't get that one until she's like 12 or 13 at least, and another apparently isn't available on DVD.

A bike.

Random Lord of the Rings and Shrek toys.

A telescope. (5 year old kids love that stuff).

Some GBA games.

Dad:

Ordered foodstuffs for him that aren't available in Nevada.

Mom:

Some shirts.

Sister:

A watch.

Christmas is about the little ones. It's not about some Jesus or a fat guy driving a sleigh. It's about the youngest people thinking that there really is magic at least one day a year. They have the rest of their lives to find out how horrible life can be.

For me it's truly a love/hate relationship. I hate it for me, but love it for the kids. If it weren't for them I'd probably shoot myself in the head once per December.

Yeah, but she gave it to you 7 times, no? That's 140 pounds.

duke is awesome.

anyway, as for me i have no wife or kids or anything, so i just get something for my parents. gift certificates to restaurants work. the best is i never have to do any real christmas shopping.

i have NEVER exchanged christmas gifts with my friends or anything like that. i guess we are all above it? it seems pretty stupid.

like duke says, it's more about kids, and since i don't have any, that's that. if i do eventually have a family and kids someday, i will definitely make christmas as special as possible for them, because that's how i remember it when i was a kid and it will never be like that for me again.

My kids got all sorts of books, c;othes video games and cd's and the Stars Wars trilogy and some board games.
My wife got some books, a board game, a necklace and some calaphan.

I got some clothes and some books, most notably Caro's Book of Tells, and the Psychology of Poker; and a poker chip set.

My family also adopted a family of five that has a terminally ill child and bought them presents, toys and games mostly . My work adopted another family of six that just had premature twins and we got them some clothes, games toys diapers and a stroller.

Ovwerall a very enjoyable holiday for giving and pretty darn good for recieving also.

weak clark. if a guy has a no giving policy, and it is known, there's no reason he shouldn't accept gifts given to him. some would probably consider it a slap in the face if he tried to return anything they gave him.

C'mon. Dude doesn't give because he's "anti-greed", but then gloats about the "kick-ass" stuff he got? If he really feels that way, he should donate his ill-gotten stuff to a local charity.

sounds to me like he think greed is the spirit of the holiday - so recieving and not giving would be logically consistent.

It's a decent book so far. The format of the book is so unique though, that it'll take me awhile to read the whole thing, but you get the idea.

My sister always gives the best presents. Past gifts include a glow-in-the-dark toilet seat, a poster of Mary Kate and Ashley, a union suit and a bottle of MSG. This year she made a charitable donation in my name to the Human Fund.
