View Full Version : We're All Just Monkeys

Once upon a time,

there were about 70,000 perhaps 100,000 monkeys playing online poker.

These monkeys had never played each other heads up before. In fact

they had never even been taught how. But with their above avg. iq's and

poker skills they played...

60% of the monkeys bankrolls were immediately destroyed.

30% of the monkeys bankrolls were eventually destroyed

9.x% of the monkeys bought in more & more & more.....

.001% became the best at heads up and won countless sums of money.

(And lets face it, unless your name is David Sklansky, born with a genius IQ,

we're all just monkeys)

Which leads me to my point. I work with an individual who is currently emerging

as one of the top Heads Up players on the internet...The sad part is........

He SUCKS at ring games...He cannot even beat the $6-$12 limit, let alone $3-$6.

He admittingly plays bad and as an asian sincerely believes he is just "lucky"

heads up.

Now I have played with him live for many hours, and have watched him online

for 1 or 2....Im telling you guys, its truly AMAZING, at how bad he plays live,

and how good he appears to play heads up.

JV made an interesting comment a few posts earlier which provided the inspiration

for this post....He said something to the effect that he admitted Last Chance was

good at heads up, but sucked in ring games.

Now I have absolutley NOTHING against Last Chance, and have never even played

against him...He strikes me as an overall winner in ring games since he is still

playing them.

Judging by his writing skills and immaturity however, he indeed too is a monkey.

I was just curious if anybody has played with LC live before, or any of the other

top HU players before. I wouldn't be surprised if more than 50% of them can't

beat a middle limit ring game.

In case you didn't get my theme, it is this: These great heads up players

are not geniuses born with insight that we have no chance of gaining. In

fact some of them may actually be a step down from the evolutionary ladder,

and merely stumbled upon proper strategy vs. X,Y,Z opponent and implemented

it using their above avg. poker skills.

But then again I didn meet someone that killed heads up, and he

plays $80-$160 in L.A. for a living...His/her was listed as being

from N. Hollywood..Im sure some of you remember.

And then there was this story, if you put an infinite number of monkeys

in a room, each with a typewriter , one of them will eventually produce the text of

Shakespeare's Hamlet. Now that one I believe.

Yes, Chan has inadvertantly developed the ultimate headsup holdem poker strategy. He needs to turn this knowledge into writing and get Dave and Mason to publish it.

Headsup limit holdem is a completely seperate game from normal ring game limit holdem. Being good at one will not translate to the other at all. Until someone documents the proper strategy for this new game it will remain a mystery to all but those who have, through natural ability, excelled at it.

Indeed Chan needs a crash course in ring game limit holdem, I'm sure he can and will excell at it in time, but currently he makes so much in headsup his focus is diverted from improving his ring...game.

I refer to him as Chan so as not to harm his money making opportunities by warning the world of who he really is. Those who know who Chan is know who "chan" is ;-)
