Pretty good 30/60 live game at canterbury.

The villain sat down maybe 4 hours ago so we've been playing awhile. I haven't been playing many hands and have been playing what would appear a little awkward to anyone who hasn't seen my cards. The few I have played I've played really weakly because of the board texture and players involved and once I check-raised a bad player on the turn with 99 on a 9876 board and he asked me if i had TT when the bad player folded. I didn't tell him...

so yeah, He's been paying a ton of attention and always trying to put people on hands. He probably thinks of me as a young kid trying to play well, yet doesn't.

He's only a touch loose, pretty predictable and has light opening standards from MP (I odn't know him that well, but that was my observation from the 4 hours together. I cna't imagine he's not a winning 30/60 player. As always i'm sure some other canterbury player who knows better than i will tell me I'm wrong...haha)

I had just came back from the 7pm 2+2 meetup and am buzzin a little bit from the beer and it shows.

He opens in the highjack seat, folded to me and I 3 bet A/images/graemlins/spade.gifQ/images/graemlins/spade.gif
he calls and says something about how i must be feeling good from the alcohol.

flop K/images/graemlins/spade.gifJ/images/graemlins/spade.gif3/images/graemlins/heart.gif
I bet, he raises, I 3 bet, he 4 bets and I call saying "ok ok I believe you."

turn 5/images/graemlins/club.gif
I check call.

river T/images/graemlins/diamond.gif

Everyone goes for a check raise here right?
(a friend told me that it's too boring of a hand and the fact i posted it makes it obvious he checked behind...but still, seemed like an obvious c/r right?)

How bout the rest of the way I played the hand.

You played it fine. And yes, I would probably go for a check-raise too.

Even a N00b like me would go for the CR.

I'm guessing AJ or something of the likes. No way he showed down a King and the CR failed.

Definitely gotta try and extract some more on the turn and go for that CR. The flop was capped!

a checkraise here would seem obvious, yet i've noticed that sometimes a river bet here will freeze him up or confuse him into making a raise here to show you up and you may get a chance to 3-bet. not saying its standard or typical or even all that common, but i've seen it happen from time to time.

people think harder when they get checkraised than they do when they get bet into.

all that said, checkraising the river still seems like the way to go.

5-bets is the cap at CBury and there is no cap when the pot is HU, fyi.

I'm trying to remember who was in that seat but can't for the life of me...

Anyway you'd be surprised what some of those guys check behind with on the river after going wild on the flop. You may wanna consider that if you're looking that weak-tight to him that he might check behind with AK on that river, thinking you're a pussy that plays AA this same way. I also don't think your "ok ok I believe you" helps the cause in getting AK or KQ to bet the river. I'm not saying you should bet it but these factors might push it to one.

I like a bet on the river, because you're guaranteed one bet, and might end up with three. It's this last part that makes it preferable to me. A check-raise is always either ZERO or TWO. I prefer the ONE, TWO, or THREE option, thank you very much.

Player-dependent, of course.

I'd probably bet-three-bet and look confused while I put in the first bet.

I would have 5-bet and said..."one more time?"

If he 6 bet, I would have said "my draw is better than your hand" and called......

Then I would have checkraised the blank on the turn with a laugh and a finger shake (like a, oh no you don't shake)....called his 3-bet and led the river....I'm pretty sure I always checkraise my straightflush draws on the turn, no matter what......it feels better, even if it's not quite +EV........
People notice that you played it like that, which gets you less respect to your checkraises later, which has to be +EV...

i do not risk him checking behind me, i bet it out on the river, and on the lucky days he thinks your taking a shot and raises. but i think checking misses a bet to often.

I'm confused. Why would you want to c/r the turn when you are likely a 2:1 dog at this point, and have no chance of winning if you don't improve, given the strength shown on the flop...am I missing something?
