View Full Version : What about Gonzaga?

Why do the Sagarin ratings have them rated so low? They have defeated #5 Washington and #8 Georgia Tech. There only loss is to #1 Illinois. Yet, the Sagarin ratings have them at #27. What is it about Gonzaga that has them ranked this low? Sagarin ratings here. (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/bkt0405.htm)

Short answer: Because they're Gonzaga
Long answer: I'll let others elaborate

Yea, I know, but I'm about to go to sleep and I can't write a really long answer to this question

I'll be quick:
The PREDICTOR rating of Gonzaga is 60th, despite the fact their ELO CHESS rating is 3rd. So they see something wrong with Gonzaga in future games. Having a weak schedule later on hurts, too.

They have a very big game coming up against #3 OK State on Tuesday. After that the schedule is pretty weak.

Did you see some of the numbers that retarded ass computer spit out for football? Cal at #3 and Utah at #4 ahead of Auburn at #5.
That computer needs a sledge hammer taken to it. Thank god it's retarded numbers aren't used for RPI.

As we all know, Gonzga's tourney rating high a high degree of multicollinearity with the RPI rakings of other WCC schools. This year teams like Santa Clara, St. Mary's, and Pepperdine (Notice no USD for those OOT Torerros) are excelling in non-conference games and thus Gonzaga, assuming they can split the OK State/Missouri trip, will benefit from the pre-season play and can probably take a 3-5 seed; 2004's #2 seed seems impossible without the 'Zags improbably running the table.
One more note, if you've ever seen Adam Morrison from Gonzga play, you know he will excel at the NBA level, far beyond recent NBA'ers Dickau, Frahm, and (soon enough) Turiaf. None of the mentioned players have the atheltic ability and basketball smarts that Morrison has; assuming he can control his severe diabetes, he will be a stud 6th or 7th man in the NBA in 2006-07.
Wishing my alma mater actually played D-I ball,

Yeah, okay, I'll bite I guess. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
Extremely disappointing showing by the Cowboys. I guess I wouldn't mind so much if we had played well and been just flat-out beaten by the Zags, but we just shot exceptionally poorly today. Far too many missed shots outside 15 feet, and it's not like they consistently had their hands in our faces either. We just plain missed them. Of course, I wasn't happy with the number of mid-range and outside shots we took either. We needed to make a much stronger and more frequent effort to penetrate their man zone and make plays happen. We lost to a team that we out-weighed by a ton, out-stretched by a ton, and could've out-physicalled by a ton, and we did it playing a perimeter game. Bleh.

After beating #3 Oklahome State they moved from #27 all the way to ................... #24. Something is seriously wrong with the Sagarin Ratings. Gonzaga is 10-1 and 3-1 against the top ten rated teams. They have beaten #4 Washington, #3 Oklahoma State, and #8 Georgia Tech. Their only loss was to #1 Illinois.
