Stud: knowing when to play a second-best hand strongly, careful observation of your opponents particularly so you know what their third-street plays mean, and hand reading on later streets that lets you trap and avoid traps.

Stud-8: not overvaluing high pairs and unconnected rough lows, knowing how to respond to scare cards, and recognizing when you have strong enough value to enter into a raising war in a multiway pot even though you don't have an absolute lock.
