View Full Version : Huge hands from 40 consecutive PP

09-10-2001, 11:56 PM
Well, I have started going through my captured hand histories from PP, and finding all kinds of interesting things. Like having Quads 6 times in a month, when I have seen quads in my hand maybe twice in the past year in B&M rooms over a larger number of hands.

Anyway, I have an interesting 40 hands consecutive sequence from a Paradise $50 1 table tourney that yielded the following. Of the 29 hands played to the river, there were as winning hands;

1) 2 different sets of Quads

2) 1 Straight Flush

3) 4 Straights, all of whoch were 10 through Ace

4) 6 Sets of Trips

5) 1 Full

6) 2 Flush

Additionally, there were a large number of Flushes, straights, sets, etc. that were not winners. And many more flushes, straights, trips, etc. that were winners but not shown down. Also, toward the end of this hand sequence there were only 5 players, as the other 5 had been knocked out already, so we were getting these big hands shorthanded. Of the pairs, lots of KK's and Aces. More than I usually see in this number of hands.

OK, Yes yes, I know, Out of the Billions of hands dealt at PP daily, I should see at least 9,000 Royal Flushes, etc., Millions of Quads, etc etc blah blah blah. Not to mention this anecdotal info. proves nothing since such hand sequences must occur all the time when such small sample sizes are hand selected for their oddness, so this is no bog deal and I need to understand statistical variation better, blah blah blah.

Nonetheless, for this AGAIN to happen in the past month during the midst of this particular discussion I again ask. What are the odds I will see a consecutive sequence like this in my B&M room in the next month? Or year? Or lifetime? Slim I would think. Havn't seen such a sequence yet, in REAL poker. Don't expect to either.

The 3 biggest HH's follow, can't fit the whole sequence of 40 but happily provide it e mail to whoever asks.

If you only had quads twice in a year of live poker my guess is you just haven't played that many hours. In the past few years of live poker I have made quads 3 times in one day on a few occasions, and have made quads twice in a day on many occasions. As I've stated before, I've also had 3 Royal Flushes in a week. Although I don't doubt getting quads 6 times in a month is perhaps above average for the number of hours you played, there's really nothing terribly unusual about it.

I think I'm starting to understand your skepticism. I'm thinking you just haven't played enough hours of live poker to realize that all these unusual things really do happen. The accelerated nature of online poker is just clueing you in a little faster than the same number of hours of live play would have.

SIX TIMES IN A MONTH? I have Quads 2-3 times a DAY...and my table will have a Quad at least once an hour.

09-11-2001, 02:48 PM
I have not jumped into the fray of...it's rigged...it's not rigged before. But let me give it a shot.

First let me say. I am amongst the group that fell that if you think it's fixed...don't play.

I was just wondering...Since it is true that pp deals an enormous ammount of hands daily.

1) What is the average ammount of hands delt daily at a local b+m card room?

2) How does that number compare to the number of hands pp deals?

3) If you combined all of the hands of b+m cardrooms around the country..would that compare?

4) If you added up all of the "crazy hands" from the total of all the hands dealt at the b+m cardrooms from around the country, How would that compare to the "crazy hands" dealt at pp?

These are just some of my thoughts. I don't really know if it has been addressed in this way before, but this is how I choose to think about it. Any comments on my reasoning are greatly appreciated.
