View Full Version : AK strategy to a preflop bettor

I've gotten much better at playing AK lately, thanks to the discussions on these boards. I've had a situation come up a couple of times recently that I'd like some advice on. I am dealt AK in late position. One person raises the pot 3XBB. Everyone else folds. It gets to me and I call. The flop misses me. The preflop raiser bets again, and I fold.

I am thinking that maybe I should reraise the preflop bettor, in order to demonstrate strength. If he puts me all-in, I fold. If not, then I can bet the flop if it misses me and perhaps take down the pot. Any comments?

Nah, that seemed pretty textbook to me.
You had a drawing hand, that didnt hit.

Who said "demonstrating strength" was necessarily a good thing always?

It isn't but folding when your ahead is bad also. If the board has a queen or jack it is an easy fold. There is a decent chance it hit him If the flop is something like 3 7 8, you can consider making a play. It helps a lot if you have a read on your opponnent. If he will not bet without a pair, easy fold.
