Nice color schemes.

You have too many $25 chips in this set. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

The design is nice, but on the dark chips you're losing the center 'rays' to the background.

Looks a bit similar to the Chipco classics.

Yes it looks like the ChipCo chips. I was just fooling around with some technique since I am a noob.

In this instance I was messing with lenses that selectively brighten elements of the base color.

I was also fooling with radial fills to try to get a little of that 'gold effect.'

The balls or similar elements might get replaced with text items in a custom font that contains a heart, club, spade, and diamond to get a 'suit effect' for the work of a text change. Slides away from a pure 'text' change to the chip and reduces (in theory) the amount of work any artist would have to do to the art if the images are already embedded in that fashion...

I only play with $25 chips. Now if only I could find some vertically aligned bricks for use on my custom felt...

I like the way you did the rays. Particularly prefer the yellow chip where the "sun dial" ring matches the lightest color ray.

Are you going to personalize the design in some way? Looks like a good basic chip but it's a little too similar to these Chipco Classics (http://www.holdempokerchips.com/products.asp?cat=24) for a basic chip unless of course a group buy makes them a better cost.

I like the J Lo's Monkey House & Casino custom chips in the members area custom art gallery of homepokerchips.com design #1 of 147 currently... might give you some ideas of customizing your design.

Looks like a good first rough draft.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I like the yellow one the best.

I like that Monkey chip too!

Hmmm #83 looks like a rival Egyptian set - Watch out Ten!

Thanks. If it looked like the Classic it wasn't an accident.

I am doubtful that any design I'd finish would look much like that. Although there may be a demand for a set like the Classic with Edge Spots that aren't just the base color with a white stripe. I like the Classic set just fine except for that...

Just fooling around with elements. Also playing a bit with color mixers to create sets of related colors (e.g. 3 points of a 5-pointed star on a color wheel for accent / edge spot colors) that work ok together.

I usually wind up with something that looks like an amateur did it or I get help from a pro depending on the project.

When I get a chance to fool around more with this stuff I'll be sure to post something.

Thanks, yes. I had some lighter colors for the backgrounds in a larger set that I didn't bother to put up on the web. With that lens set (decreasing brightness) and a dark color it fades out too much.

Quickie solutions: use lighter background color or reverse the lens so it is additive on the darker backgrounds.

(Also it may not be very clear, but each of the shorter 'points' are slightly different colors.... that was an artifact because I wanted to see what settings would look better and accidently left them intertwined like that.)

Let me go look...

My catalogue doesn't show numbered sets... Maybe it's too old? Can someone link to the catalogue?

Found it... Holy Shxx! Those bastages. /images/graemlins/smile.gif (they look pretty cool) Only two real designs though...

I wouldn't think of putting that design in the same league as yours.

The artwork on 10s set is much much cleaner. That E set looks a little too busy for me (others might disagree).

I have been having fun in CorelDraw and haven't been able to produce anything that isn't a lot worse looking than my first effort. DOH!

Personally, I hate using CorelDraw, but if its the only thing you have to work with...

I had bought a copy with my first Win95 machine...

Didn't know any better.

I'm considering biting the bullet and making the move to the Adobe stuff. Is that what you might recommend for a noob? I'd like to be better able to share source docs with a reasonable subset of artists...

A lot of what I've done in the past has been line art. Patent drawings, those flying disc designs, t-shirt graphics... just foolin' around nothing serious.

That'll blow some folks away... Yikes... even if you liked the pic you'd think the design could have been better... almost have to rely on edge colors to differentiate the chips /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Not quite sure what to make of "It feels better in" /images/graemlins/confused.gif... not sure I want to guess... any thoughts?
