I'm breaking in a new set of Copaqs, haven't made up my mind yet. Just wondering who will only use Kem, who has switched to Copaq or other.

I have KEM’s and Copag's (not Copaq).
I think that KEM's are a much better card.
The Copag's seem more flimsy to me.
Don't get me wrong though. If they will last in play then they are definitely an alternative to KEM.

If price was not a factor I would say KEM. The Copag's would be excellent cards at $20+ a set, but at under $15 shipped they are incredible. For our last tournament we used Copag's exclusively and several players liked them better than the KEM's.

I went for Kem because I prefer the matt feel of the California Club Kems over the gloss of the Copags.I do own 2 sets of Copag but only use them for multi table tourneys,Kem is the only cards we use in our home games.

At my first game using the Copaqs two people had the deck slip out of their hands and fall on the floor when they were riffleing it. One person had this happen 3 times, said it never happens with Kem. Any others have this happen?

KEM is definitely a softer and more textured card than COPAG, and you won't have those shuffling slip ups that you mentioned. You could also argue that KEM can be too "sandpaper"-y and a little harder to push two riffled piles back together before dealing.

I think other smooth plastic card brands like Gemaco and A-Plus have just a hint of static cling to them so they don't fly around as much as COPAG. Both of these brands in addition to KEM are actually used in real casino cardrooms, whereas COPAG as of date is not.

I like Copags the best, they don't seem as slick to me as KEM. I riffle on the table like a casino dealer, not like grandma playing bridge. If the table isn't level the KEMs seem to "fall over" more than Copags after you box them back up.

edit: oh yeah, my defective KEMs and the deck that got marked that I can't get a replacement card for has definitely tainted my opinion of $11/deck KEM cards.

I've been using my Copag's for a few games now. So far they seem just at good as Kem to me. If there is a difference, it doesn't seem like a $10+ difference. They do seem to be more slippery than Kem though, but maybe that's a good thing. I have noticed that as Kem's get older they get very gritty and hard to shuffle.

Any others with comments on aging decks of Copaq's vs. Kem?

I have two old decks of Kems and as far as feel & stiffness they are perfect certainly not gritty?? They shuffle great! The only problem is they've faded over the years and a few of cards have been replaced (2 on one deck & 1 on the other) which are noticeably whiter /images/graemlins/frown.gif I'd guess they are 10+ years old.

About to order so copags so I'll let you know in a year or so how they hold up /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd try for a replacement again in January when USPC Co should have Kems back in production.

I got 2 sets of KEMS and 1 Copag to give as gifts for Christmas. Bothe KEM decks had goofy cuts on the corners. Not nice and round like cards should be and like my other KEMS. The copag's were perfect. I gave away the KEMS and kept the Copag's for myself. I like them better after playing w/both. I will order more in the future and hold off on KEMS' until the quality issue's stop coming up on the forums.

The only problem I have with Kems is when the ceiling fan is going full bore some of the players have a problem keeping the Kems face down.

I have a set up of stud kings and these planks will stay face down in a tornado.
