From Brier and Ciaffone's Middle Limit Holdem, p 80:

A $20-$40 game. You open with a raise from middle position with A/images/graemlins/spade.gif Q/images/graemlins/spade.gif. Only the button and the big blind call. There is $130 in the pot and three players. The flop is: J/images/graemlins/diamond.gif 9/images/graemlins/heart.gif 8/images/graemlins/club.gif, giving you a gutshot in addition to your overcards. BB checks. What do you do?

The recommend checking, and don't give advice about how to respond if the button bets. Based on their reasoning for checking, however, I'd guess they recommend either a fold or a call. This seems wrong to me. Check-raising and betting out seem like the contestents for best play. After that, I guess I prefer a call to a fold, but I'm not sure.

Thoughts?

That's what I thought. So do prefer betting or a c/r.
