Teams that cannot stop the run, cannot win. The domino effect is that they will not be able to stop the pass either as they bring 7 and 8 men into the box play after play. A further effect is that the offense spends less time on the field, hurting their chances of finding any rythmn.
The Jets showed last night why they'll behard-pressed to get 7 wins - they cannot stop the run. Losing Jason Ferguson for the year is likely their death knell with respect to any realistic chance of sneaking into the playoffs.
On the plus side, the Niners showed that they have the stuff to post a winning record, possibly giving themselves a chance at 'back-dooring' the playoffs now that the NFL will keep the 3 wildcard team format.
