View Full Version : witty new home game

Here's an interesting 7-stud variation invented for relaxing home play. This is called Criss-Cross Applesauce and is played high-low.

1. Each player receives three concealed cards. Bet ensues. (From left of dealer.)

2. Board is plus shape laid out, five cards in criss-cross pattern. Turn any two adjacent cards on the edge. Bet. (Last raiser bets first.)

3. Turn other two edge cards. Bet. (Last raiser bets first.)

4. Turn middle card. Bet. (Last raiser first.)

5. Last raiser declares he will "take the round" meaning use the four edge cards to complete his hand OR he receives a fourth down card to himself. Same process is completed for each player still in the pot. Bet. (Last raiser first.)

6. Players who received down card must declare horizontal or vertical in order from last raiser around. Players then showdown using declared row to make both high and low hands.

Strategy comes into play when choosing to take the round or which row to take, as only one choice is possible for both high and low. Of course careful observation of what opponents choose is wise, as it may be possible to forsake your best high or low hand for a better hand of the other, especially when trying to win both ways.
