I have only ever seen some very cheesy tigergaming and pokerstars commercials. There are no restrictions that i am aware of, but that one certainly wouldnt be allowed due to its graphic nature.

This pokerroom one is something i just saw while checking out big-boys.com fantastic selection of videos.

I expect there to be more commercials because somewhere it was mentioned that Canada was the number two country for onlinepoker behind US. That surprised me though because i figured somewhere in Europe would be number 2.

I called PokerRoom support this weekend and the guy was actually in Sweden. Don't know if this means anything.

I have never seen an online casino commercial here.

I have heard pokernow commercials on the radio.

I now remember where i heard Canada was second in the number of online poker players. It was on the national news program that did a segment on the boom of online poker.

When I did play there, the site froze/disconnected about once every 5-30 minutes. In addition, the whole look and feel is horrible - it's hard to tell when the action is on you, etc.

Granny,

Our Canadian government has far more important issues and legislation matters on the table. For example, there's a huge bill to be passed that would increase our Member of Parliament salaries, grant them closer parking spaces, and have large lunch allowances. Frankly, some people might care a lot about this, but I don't give a hoots so long as online gambling legislation keeps going back to the bottom of the pile "to do" list under our Parliment.

In Canada, our gambling laws are more relaxed and somewhat undefined. We also do not pay a dime in taxes if we win.

As for poker room advertisements, Tiger Gaming advertises whenever the WPT in on. I have also heard a couple of poker rooms advertise on a couple of local sports radio stations.

Unfortunately the market in Canada is still small compared to the US, but still it's better than nothing. I'm surprised Party and other's haven't had a more aggressive marketing approach in Canada.

I dare you to go and ask revenue Canada to audit you. Go show them all your game logs for the last year. There was a thread a couple months ago that explained that there is pretty much no doubt that an online poker player without a second job that has a greater level of income MUST pay taxes. The poster was some sort of financial guy. Even if it isnt your major source of income the odds are that it is definitely taxable. Windfall (lottery), random casino trips, and a game where you have shown a reasonapble expectation to win over time (winning poker player) are not the same.

Really - having the timing bar underneath you, having your name highlighted in yellow, and having those big action boxes and the raise bar (for PL and NL) are a pretty good indication to me.
