The last several weeks in my friday night home game we have been primarily switching off between rounds of pot limit holdem with .25/.50 blinds and pot omaha 8 with the same blinds. The table usualy has from 7 to 11 players. My question is about playing pot limit omaha 8, I have noticed high low games at casinos and in tournaments are all limit. In our game it is common to have 10 people see the flop unless there is a substantial raise preflop. Since the inplied pot odds are so high in this game how bad does your hand need to be to fold preflop? Is playing pot limit high low games a poor idea because it is too loose and it give too great of an advantage to low hands?

Playing pot limit is very different than limit. Depending on the type of game and opponents pot limit games are usually tighter than limit games as you would expect. Now, many people (10 in your case) seeing the flop should make one thing very clear to you -

PLAY MUCH TIGHTER AND TRY TO NEVER DRAW TO LESS THAN THE NUTS UNLESS YOU KNOW YOU CAN MAKE SOME ONE LAYDOWN A BETTER HAND.

This isn't holdem, playing trash hands like A46J or whatever can get u into a lot of trouble.

In loose games - play very tight preflop especially for omaha 8

In tight games - you can loosen up just a bit

If the game is as loose as you say, i would just wait for quality starting hands than can scoop, make small raise preflop and build a nice big pot so people wont be able to let go of the 2nd 3rd or whatever nut draws while ur there holding nut low with a very high chance of winning the high pot also.

I hope i helped,

But in a home game you don't want to be the party pooper, so you should prob limp with a number of these crap hands, then dump the flop. You'll likely keep your action on good hands by not being seen as tight. You might also hit a flop hard once in a while to recompense playing scraps.

See above re starting hands but - yes - build the pot preflop when you have the potential to draw to the nuts. In this game, I'd try and play any Axs or A2 in my hand, and prob make a baby raise, even if that's all I had of value. With 10 to the flop, I think it's worth it. These hands have got to have more than their fair share of value here.
