Okay Kids, Whats the verdict? IS this mold a deal breaker. http://www.dice702.com/casinochips/paulsonisthmus.jpg

I'd buy a set. I have no problem with the mold. We can't expect them to be exactly like all "top hat and cane" chips, because why would a casino buy more chips from Paulson if they looked just like all the "Joe Schmoe's" chips?

I would have rather seen the classic TH&C on them, but if they are exactly the same as Paulson casino chips in all other aspects I would be able to live with them.

I too would rather have seen the old TH&C, I would also like to see them make a set without the denoms..

I think this will be the first mold and others that are not as obnoxious will follow. I still want to see samples though. It might look more subtle on an actual chip. Plus I'm sure many will give in when they're the exact same weight as current paulsons.

My next set of customs will be tr king chips.

The mold I could live with, but "Casino de Isthmus" - yuck - how about something that's not already out there! Disappointed.

I saw a old box of TR King chips on Ebay with a really cool mold. It looked like one continuous waves around the chip. I wonder if TR King still got that mold.

I totally agree - I never really liked the "Casino de Isthmus" - Personally I hate the words Casino on any chip (I do have some paulsons that have the words casino, but it is small text).

I wished they looked more like the photo below with the different shape insert and simple text.

All I want are Paulson chips. These will do just fine. In fact, I love the $1 chip especially. I will buy these when I return from deployment.

I don't mind it too much...wouldn't stop me from buying them.

My sentiments also... "Casino de Isthmus" was weak to begin with and to reuse it is totally lame... they should've just put Phil H. on them /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I don't mind casino on a chip but would probably prefer something else.

I think the molds fine as I've seen worse... e.g. the BPC royal court is much worse.

Those geometric inlays are definitely cool and would have been a nice retro touch... just can't figure out why they wouldn't spend more time designing them to be more unique /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Does anyone know if this is the result of a post awhile back searching for mold designs?? Because the poster was also looking for a classic inlay design which this definitely IS NOT.

- Fins

PS... oh & my chips are the bomb so I'm not in the market but if the inlay were cooler I'd be at least tempted.

The fact that these will be the third series of chips with this same inlay is what turns me off. The fact that it's supposedly from a James Bond movie turns me off even more. Compounded with that mold, I'll never buy a set of these. I will get some samples though and might consider some other design on this mold, but not something tacky looking. I'm sure someone at GPI was in a meeting discussing new chips and said -- "well this inlay is already done". I'm sure there will be plenty of different inlays to chose from. I would go with the Apache chips over these, and I wouldn't buy those either.

I don't mind the mold. Obviously I prefer the old TH&C, but the "Paulson Chips" text doesn't turn me off. Mind, I'm not a big fan of the Ithmus insert.

Love the mold. Whoever decided on the insert is on crack. Does the world really need any more CDI chips?

If people don't want Paulsons bond chips, they can get ones from trademarkpoker which looks more generic.

I can understand them not wanting to sell chips to the general public that look like casino chips, but putting PAULSON around the edge is a little tacky. You know there Paulson's by the way they feel and look, not by the label.

Here's my take on the situation. I understand they want thier name on it for promotional purposes. "Marketing Genius," No not really. That type of marketing is for the average joe schmoe who doesn't know anything about chips. And those people are (A) going to go out and buy the first thing they see(Suited 11.5 Gram) or (B) go buy the cheapest, or (C) do a little research and find out Paulson is the best. No Joe Schmoes is going to say " I'll just fork over $1 per chip on these withouth finding out about them.
None of us have.

The customers of paulson Quality chips are intelligent buyers. They know what they are getting. They know Paulson has a top hat, endy has a seashell(flames, whatever) etc. I don't think we need to Read Paulson Chips to know they are good chip. Any new mold would become synonymous with their brand. The fact is the mold probably has more of a negative effect on the sales than a positive effect on marketing.

I don't need to see the word Ferrari written in huge letters across the hood of the car to know what it is. You can just tell.

I get what you're saying. But I also noticed that many of us "experts" here and on other boards have paid $4 a chip for the Phil Helmuth Professional Series Poker Chip, simply because it has Phil Helmuth splashed across the friont. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Maybe it is just me, but the mold is never the feature that catches my attention on a chip. Feel, edge spots and chip color are what catches the majority of my attention, and then the inlay. Looking at AgentJack's chips above I would buy those if the mold said "Foxwoods Buffet $15.99"

..and Ten, I think Phil should go on the Plaque in place of Tut. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

(not kidding. No really, I'm not... I think it'll be hilarious. /images/graemlins/smile.gif ) ... but you have to use the same image as on the yellow $100 chip of his 11.5g set. The one where he's pointing at you. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good God those sample pics are ugly. The $25 sample chip looks absolutely nothing like the picture. The picture was tolerable -- those samples are horrendous.

Thank God they put the word CHIPS in there on their chips...

I think the chips look fine. It seems as though the new mold ("Paulson Chips") is the same style, well with the text added, as their roulette markers.
