View Full Version : The 24 hour, 12,000 hand challenge. (to start 1/7/05)

Ahem. I've avoided doing any of these public 60 day 60 million dollar challenges because, frankly, most of you hear too much from me anyway. Nonetheless, there seems to be some interest in a challenge I outlined in snowbank's "2005 New Years Poker Goals..." post.

That is the 12,000 hand day. As I figure it, 8-tabling Party .5/1 games for 24 hours should result in roughly 12k hands.

My goal is to play all 12k of these hands in one 24 hour block, to occur between 12:00 AM 1/7/05 pacific time and 11:59 PM 1/7/05 pacific.

Anyone who wishes to enter in this challenge (in an attempt to play 24 straight hours of poker) is welcome. Anyone who wishes to join my .5/1 tables in this time is welcome. Anyone who wishes to crap on this idea is welcome. I would just ask those who know my playing names to refrain from making them public. On 1/8/05, I go back to making my living playing Party 3/6.

I just thought I'd announce it here, and announce a date, so that it was clear that the response had been taken seriously and that I intend to take this challenge on in the near-term.

I honestly think you could probably get 10 of us do it at 8 tables for 24 hours if you're so inclined. We'd probably all lose $$ though.

if you're good at keeping 8 tables open at all times, you could probably squeeze out 550 hands an hour

At 0.50-1?

Damn....I am more likely to be playing the opening event of the Binion's World Poker Open in Tunica on that day.

Since the games down there are likely to be VERY good I might be able to try a 24-hour B&M marathon. But that isn't very original and it could sure mess me up for my first real shot at B&M tournament play.
Plus, I certainly wouldn't be able to get 12k hands in so what's the point?

get that coffee brewing and good luck on your quest.....easily the best quest we've had on the forums.

If you average 4-6 2+2ers at the table you'll get more hands than 12K. A lot more.

I'm going to join for a bit and act dumb.

Michael Davis
12-20-2004, 03:34 AM
Yes, but you will also be more taxed mentally.

-Michael

MicroBob
12-20-2004, 03:36 AM
But if you did get that many 2+2'ers to do it you should be able to get WAY more than 12k hands total.

I like the idea of 24-hours of auto-folding to the blinds to try to get 25k hands in a single day.

Is someone willing to try 24-hours of 12-tabling??

Why hasn't someone set up a "Party skin account" service?

it's not that hard (heck, even I was able to pull it off).

I think this topic is covered in the internet-forum FAQ's.

AncientPC

I'm up for this, I'll probably attempt to 8 table Party NL 25 6-max.

I'll probably end up with 6x 6-max tables and 2x full ring tables, or just 6x 6-max.

However I'll probably doing it the next weekend following as I'm busy that weekend.

I want to either do this at 15/30 full or 5/10 and 10/20 6-max sometime before the end of the year.

Either that....or I'll do 8-12 tables of .02/.04 (or near equivilent penny-games) via stars, paradise and ub.

7k hands in a single day by 8-tabling 6-max for 12 hours might be more within my comfort zone though.

This is pure insanity. You do realize you are talking about 24 hours of sitting in a chair 8-tabling.

bdk3clash
12-20-2004, 08:34 AM
I've thought about doing something like this--thus far my record is a 4000+ hand session, but I only have one monitor and thus play 4 tables at a time. I think it was like 15 hours of play in a row or something like that. I think I could do 24 relatively easily.

turnipmonster
12-20-2004, 12:53 PM
you could easily hit 12k hands playing 6 max.

bisonbison

The rules, such as they are:

Before you take the challenge, you post in the Official 24 hour challenge thread (to be started by me real soon now), declaring when you're starting and how many tables you'll be playing.

You do the challenge.

You post a PT screenshot in the official challenge thread, filtered to the specific date on which you took the challenge.

This screenshot should indicate 3 things:

1. That you played only Party and Affiliates 10-max games.

2. That you played at full tables as much as possible. Therefore, your AP stat (average players per hand) on the sessions tab must be above 7, or you have FAILED.

3. That your hand total is above 1.042 hands/minute/table over those 24 hours, or you have FAILED. This number should keep people playing for almost an entire day, while allowing for poop breaks.

Upon completion and posting, you will be granted entry into the illustrious order of the All-Day Hold'em Obsessive Challenge (ADHOC).

Depending on how many tables you played, your rank in the order is as follows:

1 table (1500 hands): Tafetta
2 tables (3000 hands): Cotton
3 tables (4500 hands): Velcro
4 tables (6000 hands): Chrome
5 tables (7500 hands): Popcorn
6 tables (9000 hands): Mucus
7 tables (10500 hands): Teak
8 tables (12000 hands): Tobacco
9 tables (13500 hands): Soap
10 tables (15000 hands): Paprika
11 tables (16500 hands): Leather
12 tables (18000 hands): Rye
13 tables (19500 hands): Cork
14 tables (21000 hands): Velvet
15 tables (22500 hands): Pyrite
16 tables (25000 hands): Nerf

So if I say I'm taking the 8-table challenge on the 7th and I pass, I'm now ADHOC: Tobacco.

Achieving a given rank means nothing, and should be a matter of shame as much as pride. That is all. I'll post this all in a new thread so that you can begin to waste your lives.

Bison: Very interesting challenge. I assume you'll be keeping a Micro or SS thread open for comments throughout the challenge?

We should have an over/under going on your results, at a bare minimum. Or, everyone could make their own predictions, with the winner receiving something like a week of avatar rights.

The possibilities are endless! Blast through the burn! Ride your zone! And so forth!

Good luck!

Out of interest are you counting this 0.5/1 [censored] in your open challenge hands? I object to that, not because I'm losing (well kinda) but also because that isn't your normal game.

AncientPC

bisonbison
12-20-2004, 09:53 PM
I am counting the games. I mentioned it in the sign-up thread but no one objected, but I'd be willing to discount them. 1/2 off?

Besides, if you're playing 6-max games, isn't it a little easier for you to play more hands?

In any case, as of this morning, I had 21,530 3/6 hands.

AncientPC
12-21-2004, 12:12 AM
It's easier to play more hands, but harder to multitable.

I can play 8 full ring easily, but am pushing it with 6 6-max tables. Usually it's just 4 6-max tables . . .

sthief09
12-21-2004, 12:22 AM
he should get time/6 for playing .5/1 instead of 3/6

sthief09
12-21-2004, 12:24 AM
6-max games aren't easier to log more hands. hands are hands and are equally draining. if anything, they are tougher because you're playing more hands. you play 8 tables of 3/6. only a complete psycho like Schneids could play 8 6-max tables

bisonbison
12-21-2004, 12:46 AM
hehehe, I'm not taking 1/6th. 1/2 - 1/3 seems fair, with the understanding that someone ought to see if cnfzzed made any rules about this.

I'm not playing them simply to pad my hand totals, though I'll admit it's an added plus.

i saw no reason to discount six-max hands as they were hands, and anyone could play the six max tables if they wanted to. Also, for the reasons sthief mentions, i felt that the increased number of hands would be a just reward for those who chose to go with such insanity. Also, when i take this challenge, i will probably be doing 8 1/2 six max, so i am self-biased. However, since the ADHOC challenge is limited to 24hours, and is testing primarily short-term endurance, instead of long-term commitment, i think that some sort of discount would not be out of line. So, pretty much, its up to you big guy.

Guys, just to be clear: I'm not doing this ADHOC thing this month. I thought Tosh was asking about whether the .5/1 hands that I've played this month (about 8-9k) should count.

Maybe I've misinterpreted everything. I'm doing ADHOC after the heads-up hand race is through.

cnfuzzd
12-21-2004, 02:06 AM
perhaps misinterpretations abound. The open challenge is monthly. It will continue next month, and hopefully after that as well.

I, correctly i hope, read in your original post that the ADHOC challenge was starting next month, and was also looking forward to participating in it. If i am getting this right, for the month of january, whoever participates gets the chance to claim their title. yes? some curious thoughts i had were about playing multiple times to improve one's score, thoughts on clearing the scores at the end of the month, and thoughts on how hot CDC's sister really is. Maybe i should just go do some pr0ning.
