View Full Version : "called" hand?

When playing hi/low declare, if there is only one person who declares one direction, does he have to show his hand?

For example, if 4 people declare. 3 go low and 1 goes high, does the one high have to show his hand?

In a home game, it's whatever the house rules are, but generally yes he has to show, but obviously it does not have to be the high hand to win.

The logic is 1) you need *a* hand to win, and 2) it helps alleviate fears of collusion which is obviously a much greater threat in hi-lo games than one-way games. It could also be argued that the price of winning a called pot is showing your hand and your opponents deserve that information, but 1 & 2 are the real reasons.

We play that he would have to show, but it's also an automatic winner as we do not have a qualifier.

yes, scott, the automatic winner aspect is where my question came in. we have about half the table that claims that he doesn't have to show (because his direction was uncontested and not "called") and the other half of the group says he should show.

i was just wondering how others on this board have seen it/dealt with it.

sounds like most require the show.

thanks.

and sometimes we can have a big laugh how somebody won the low with a high hand because he was the only one declairing low.
