SB is loose passive and BB is tight passive. Was this the right play?

The only reason to bet would be to steal the pot.. I don't think you can honestly think you have the best hand , given the flop action. A bet is unlikely to make both of them fold since the pot is pretty big and anyone with second pair should be calling down since you suggested a busted flush draw with your turn check.

It's not weak, but the turn is a great time to semibluff as you have at least 12 and maybe 18 outs. Plus you may already have the best hand. You may also win the pot outright. Therefore, they add up to a good turn bet.

I'd bet the turn, both as a semibluff to try and steal the pot right there (could work if SB & BB are both on small/medium pockets or middle pair) and/or to grow the pot for your big draw.

If you're called on the turn, checking behind on a blank river is the right move.
