Just another version of guts. Everybody antes in( for a predetermined amount amongst the group) and each player is dealt three cards. In this first round, 3's are wild. Three 3's is the best hand, then three Ace's, etc.. Dealer then announces 1,2,3 drop. Anyone who wants to stay in with their cards holds on to them and those who do not drop. If you stay in with 2 or more players, they exchange cards and best hand wins. The best hand takes the pot and the loser matches the pot. If there are more than 2 people in the showdown, then both losers match the pot.If you are the only one to stay in, then you receive 1 leg of the pot. Once you receive 3 legs, the pot is yours and the game is over. The dealer now deals out 2 more cards, giving everyone five cards. Now 5's are wild. Same as before, dealer goes 1,2,3 drop and you either stay in or drop out. Winner takes the pot and the losers match or if he is the only one in, he gets a leg. Now dealer deals 2 more cards, giving everyone a total of 7 cards and now 7's have become wild. drop, show, match pot or get a leg, just like before.

The best starting hand would be 777, then 555, then 333 and so on.

Any comments welcome on making changes.

Thanks!

My group and I have been trying to do something other than 'legs.' Now what we do is if only 1 person stays in on 3 or 5 cards, they are only shooting for half the pot, against the deck. If they lose, they only match half. The game ends when only 1 person stays and wins against the 7 card hand. Re-ante before a new deal. Sure the pot goes up and down, but it keeps it interesting.

Having to go against the deck can provide some interest. What if you are the only one and the deck comes out A-7-7? You know that the worst the deck can have is trip aces on the final hand. And that's with 4 cards still to come. That plays into the holding and folding a little.

We normally do that when we are playing 2-card guts.

When you have to go up against this ghost hand, do you deal the next 3 or 5 cards off the top of the deck or do you actually deal one extra hand in relation to the amount of players playing?

My only question is,say, when you only have 3 cards and are the only one in, do you have to show your cards to the whole table or let them know if you won or lost after the round is over. If you do have to show the whole table then it is an advantage for them in later rounds.

The next 3(or 5 or 7) cards are dealt of the top of the deck.

As far as winning against the ghost, we only have to show enough for a win, which doesn't always give much away.

Example:

you : 3-5-5

Ghost 4-8-K

All you have to show is your soon to be worthless 3, since you know with a wild, you paired.

We play in much the same way as the original post. However once the first three cards are dealt and threes are wild 3,5,7 is the best hand followed by three of a kind. Straights and flushes dont come into play until second and third rounds. We play with challenges. Everybody antes a small amount to start a game and then starting to the left of the dealer you can choose to go in or pass. If somone goes in they are first to act on the next round. If you go in you place your cards in the middle and everybody after you can challenge your hand. If someone wants to challenge you exchange hands with them and only the two of you see each others cards. You owe the pot to each player who wins a silent challenge. If a player goes in everybody after them has the opportunity to challenge. If somebody goes in and isnt challenged they receive a mark. The number of marks necessary to win the pot is determined before the game starts. It is usually three. Players pay lost challenges after seven cards. Everybody reantes and continues until somebody wins the necessary number of marks.
