My understanding was that the reason why characters in hentai looked the way they do is because in general, the market for those cartoons is going to be attracted to western-looking women. Hence the large eyes, light skin and big breasts. I think it probably has to do with the fact that western women are going to seem exotic to an Asian audience, much the same way that many westerners are attracted to Asian women in the same way.

But of course that's just a guess. 'Cause I don't know much about these people, except that they're small, maybe 2 or 3 feet tall and their ladyfolk have sideways vaginas.

I think the western look is very possible. But, i think the true reason is that big eyes make people look younger. The way they make these people look in other ways and school girl outfits also make me think this is why it is. It is a society in love with underage adolescents.
