Dodgers = rebuilding.

If so, good trade for them. If they think they are going to contend this year (meaning they will get a few guys in like Mags and Konerko) this is sh!tbox. Glad to get rid of Green; rotation gets younger; not sure why they had to give up on Penny.

Excellent pick up for The Yankees. It will be interesting to see if and how Boston reponds.

I don't think they gave up on Penny as much as upgraded with Vasquez. Last post season aside that guy is a stud.

Dodgers win huuuuuuuuuge. Duncan looks really good, Navarro looks good and Vasquez is better than he was last year.

If the Yankees get Johnson then they may not need Jesus (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1400312&page=1&view=colla psed&sb=5&o=14&fpart=1).

Amazing! How did I know? /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I agree, I just caution against them overpaying (especially in years) for a marginal bat. The big hitters are off the market, so they should focus on the overhaul this year and develop some players, and look for more trades.

However, I did hear just now, the Dogers are making a play for Helton. That would be a nice pickup.

I thought they were right in not over paying for Belre. He has disappointed every year but the one prior to him being a free agent.

I may have to become a Dogder Fan, even though they did let me down in the playoffs and I lost a couple of sawbucks.

Still its: Go Mariners and Diamondbacks.

If the Yankees played in the same market as all other teams did, this would be a horrible deal for them.

Im not even sure Baseball America should bother acknowleging their farm, why not just split Milwaukee or LA in half and rank one half at the botton.

I'm disgusted. I like javy, and those 2 prospects. Im so sick of them, I really understand how everyone hates the yanks.

Go Brewers!

edit: I'm really a huge lifelong yanks fan. But this still sucks.

Dude WTF? You hate this why, because it helps them win a World Series next year. I mean are you just not a Randy Johnson fan or what? Or do you just want some perpetually rebuilding team that always has "great prospects". If so, than yeah root for the Brewers I guess.

Vazquez (28) was really bad in the second half of last season. But, Johnson (41) is just a short term upgrade. Vazquez could have been a good pitcher for many years to come.

I don't disagree but I think Johnson gives The Yankees the best chance to win this year, which is what they are built for. I like Vasquez but if getting Johnson finally puts them back on top than it is an easy price to pay. I also estatic that they apparently were able to make the deal and keep Gordon.

Vazquez is going from the AL East to the NL West with a very good Dodger defense and a reputable pitcher's park.

Also, he is going to work with Jim Colborn rather than that hack Mel Stottlemeyer (honestly, name one pitcher who has considerably improved under his watch. Even Clemens seemed rather average at times in New York)

He will end up suprising some...

Dynasty summed it up nicely. But also Navarro would have been a nice replacement for Jorge in a few years. I like my teams because I like my team and it's players. It would be nice to have a few homegrowns on the team (which is what the core has been all these years) instead of a team of Jeter and 10 35 yr olds making 15M a year on loan. I'd rather the yankees build up and make another run, then win this year, and have the same damn problems next year.

And as a fan of baseball it really is gross that the Yanks payroll will exceed 200M this year.

Also being a Jets and Knicks fan I have a problem with management that does all it can to win.

Assuming all deals are finalized The Yankee starting rotation looks pretty good

1.R. Johnson
2.M. Mussina
3.K.Brown
4.C.Pavano
5.J.Wright

I'm disgruntled that Lieber won't be around after but it looks strong enough to me if (IF) everyone stays healthy

Hehehehe.

I'll go out on a limb to predict a mildly 'off' season for Johnson next year. By that I just mean that he'll go 17-11 or something like that with a 3.4 ERA. 'Off' compared to the mind-blowing numbers of NL... I think people forget how insanely good some of the hitting is in the AL East...

Although Schilling made the switch and did great, and Johnson was over here before. So we'll see.

The Randy Johnson trade has fallen apart (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1951207)

Apparently, the Dodgers just weren't satisfied with what they would get in this three-team, ten-player trade. But, the Diamondbacks are still trying to find a way to send Johnson to the Yankees simply so they can be rid of Johnson's big salary.

Is it just my perception, or is DiPodesta looking like a complete novice? The Dodgers appear to be a very weak team right now. If he's not able to secure Drew, he will look like he squandered all his opportunities this winter.

One other thing that seems strange is the report that the Diamondbacks want to unload Johnson's big salary. Didn't they just spend a ton of money on new players? Or maybe that's why they need to unload him.

I would expect the trade to be redone and finalized this week. As a Yankee fan I am really not worried at all.

Clarkmeister
12-21-2004, 11:27 PM
Everything I've read indicated it's the new owner and not DiPodesta that is the primary problem.

For those attending Dodger games next year, you should be able to get closer to the field.

are they moving the bleachers in?

andyfox
12-22-2004, 01:12 PM
I wonder if those are additional seats, or if the whole thing is being moved closer? That is, will there be more people in front of me, or will my seats be shifted forward.

BTW, looks like the Dodgers have come to an agreement with J.D. Drew, five years, $55,000,000. Wouldn't Beltre have been a better investment at $65,000,000?

Reports are the Diamondbacks are looking for another team to replace the Dodgers as the 3rd party to the deal. Vasquez apparently doesn't want to relocate in the west and would have demanded a trade after 2005; in order to nix the deal, supposedly he refused a physical. I didn't realize a traded player, who has no right of trade refusal, could do this.

andyfox
12-22-2004, 01:22 PM
Yankees president Randy Levine had harsh words for the Dodgers after the deal's collapse. "The Dodgers reneged on the deal that was agreed to last Friday, unequivocally and with no contingencies except for a window for contract extensions and physicals," Levine said. "For some reason, the Dodgers over the weekend started to backpedal. Why they would break their word is only something they can answer. It sure is disappointing, and we'll have to think long and hard before ever doing business with the Dodgers again."

One would have assumed they would have thought long and hard after the Kevin Brown deal. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
