View Full Version : Blackjack in Vegas

Last night was the first night I got out since the terrible events on Tuesday. I went to The Mirage to play poker and got into a stud game. But that's not the purpose of my post. What I noticed was that the casino, especially for a Saturday night, was very slow and the blackjack conditions looked great. So I thought I would mention it. By the way, if conditions stay slow, I'm sure the casinos will appreciate the business that readers of these forums can provide.

There are places with far better conditions than you will find at the Mirage right now, though the Mirage isn't too shabby. By the way, there is a spot which currently has early surrender. I read Sklansky's blackjack book and, in it, he advises the reader to sit down and play in a game with early surrender after first giving him a call but, he didn't give his phone number! I would call him and tell him if I could...oh well.

I agree, I was at the Mirage and it was scary how slow it was. It was like the week before Christmas in business levels. When was the last time the Mirage had five empty dice tables with dealers standing by at 11pm? And they had an army of empty blackjack tables with bored dealers standing by. The poker room was doing alright not that much slower than a typical Sat night, guess that just shows the power of having locals for that part of the business. Even the lounge had all of 4 people in it. As for helping the conditions of the games, I would think it could be worse. A lot of pit bosses didn't have much to do. They might come check out your play not because of suspicion, but just because they have nothing else to do. They had full Saturday night staff for a slow season Tuesday night crowd.

I should have. I should have walked up to Mason and asked him when he will have polo shirts available so we can all look like a bunch of tech company geeks. Our supposed "knowledge" will scare everyone out of our pots like it should /images/smile.gif

So why don't you tell us where it is?

I had scheduled a trip to Vegas for last weekend, but my flight was cancelled. So I'll be back in 3 weeks to give them my business. There are great airfares and hotel rates right now if anyone is thinking of going.

But you have to really look. On Sunday, there were no non-stop United flights from O'hare to Vegas on October 12 or any earlier Friday. On Monday there were a couple of flight options with the cheaper one costing over $1600 (round-trip returning Monday). On Tuesday morning you could take your pick of any of their non-stops for under $200. By Tuesday night there were fewer options, and the best ones were over $1200, but still cheap prices on teh less desirable flight times. I'm guessing travel agents snatched up the cheap fares.

Hotel costs are also varying day-to-day, but not as much.

Always buy your tickets during the middle of the week, Tuesday is best to find a great fare. Airlines have been going at it with fare wars since July with America West and National usually starting it. Talk about a bargain, I bought a round trip to Boston for $110 in early October! That fare was offered before the attack, but I bought it a few days after to show my faith in our country. I encourage all others to not change their plans or life due to the cowards and keep on spending (provided you haven't lost your job). Besides what is more American than getting a great deal?
