You make me sick. Come to work with me for a day and see how "sad" poker is.

I am a risk analyst.
I work with gaming sites, doing microinvesting. Basically I make financial transactions I feel will produce a positive return on my initial deposit. etc.
Usually you can avoid identifying yourself as a poker player if you take the time to use enough euphamisms. Yes, I really do this.

I'm a student without a job, who plays poker for money.
Am I considered professional?

Personally, I'm proud to say I'm a poker player. If someone gives me a dirty look and doesn't "approve" of it, I tell them to f*** off.

There's no rules about who is or isn't a pro.

I consider myself a pro, though I also run a business. I have 2 sources of income. Poker produces more money than my business, so therefore I consider myself a pro poker player. My understanding is that most pro poker players (who are successful / not broke) have other sources of income.

Living with a professional poker player, I understand this. But man, seriously, I have a boss, and crazy weird co-workers. I make [censored] for money, and my job is incredibly mind-numbing. There's nothing you can "play" for a living worse than my job.

Once again, this dwindles to definitions. I have a regular job, but I make more playing poker. I put in a lot of hours playing and studying poker. I think most people on the boards would say that makes me a semi-pro, but that is not an option.

I have a 40h week job.
I make 4 times as much per hour playing poker. I play about 15-20hrs a week.

calling yourself a pro is in my opinion contextual and doesn't matter much. you can say you're a pro player if it benefits you, and say you do something else when it doesn't.
I have a day job, but work as a professional musician as well, sometimes 5 nights a week. so if someone calls me about a gig I tell them I am a professional musician, sure. that I happen to do other things to make additional money is usually not that important to anyone as long as I can perform my function in a professional capacity.
