View Full Version : Getting over the hump

Hi,

I'm relatively new to tournament play. Maybe played 10 live events and the same number online. Anyway, I've had two second place finishes and one fourth, but in general I seem to find it difficult to clear the final hurdle and get into the money positions.

Typically I will go out in the late to middle stages. What do you need to regularly get past the middle stages and into the late stages of tourneys?

I suspect I'm playing too tight.

Wow! Thanks for all the helpful advice.

Can you expand on your results ? If those are all multi-table tournaments then 3 top 4 places out of 20 is actually pretty good.

You can't expect to make the money all the time - a lot of it is playing as well as you can and giving yourself the best possible chance to get lucky, or, if you prefer, getting yourself into a position where you need as little luck as possible.

Anyway let us know and we might be able to take it from there.

Andy.

Thanks Andy. They are all multi-table tournaments. Pokerstars and my local cardroom. A mix of pot limit, No limit and limit.

I played many of Paradise's single table limit tourneys (buy-ins ranging from $5 to $50), but did not include these in my summary as I am primarily interested in improving in multi-table tourneys. For the record I am in profit on these single table tourneys

As an aside I perform well in full ring games. Limits ranging from $2-$4 up to $10-$20. But am a very inadequate player at both shorthanded poker (I suck basically) and pot limit cash games.

geeze loueze, maybe you could be a little harder on yourself. give it a break, sound s like you've done pretty well for a newbe. we all want to be the greatest so slow down and give the rest of us a break, if those are truely your results stay away from my table. My first response was good job dude. I equate your situation as someone moving up from cart to the winston cup seriers and not being happy with just qualifing, in my opinion you sound like you are just fine and only need to continue improving your game like the rest of us.......
