button has not played many hands to this point. i got a little crazy pre-flop, trying to isolate a hand hopefully like AJs or AQs...

i'd call here and lead out on the turn. expect to see some smartass slowplayin KJ that he thought was best on the flop.

2 questions:
1. is the pre-flop 3-bet too LAG?
2. what range of hands do you put villain on?

Answering these questions is easier if you tell us what you mean when you say the villain has not been playing many hands. Is it like 1 out of 10, 3 out of 200... ?

Anyway, the preflop three bet is bad, and I bet he has JJ and rivers quads.

Def would not 3-Bet the flop. Villian could have most likely Two pair, an unlikely TPTK that's he's playing to hard and well if you run into the set over set, sry but it happens on occasion. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I call, lead out the river and just call if raised.

Reel it in a little, Ollie.

i am mistaken.
over 95 hands, villain's 41/1.05
but, the PFR #, i think this is that one hand he raised.

i think i agree w/ you; this is a bad pre-flop 3-bet...the table was very passive, but it was too narrow-minded to automatically lean towards him holding non-paired face cards..

precisely my line.

river was a blank.
i called, i bet the river, villain raised, i called.

villain shows JJ for set-J and MHING.

i've ended my session -0.75 SB, but not feeling too bad. maybe feeling too good about losing, but i think my problems are fixable.

1/2 is a new step for me, and i'm coming to realize, it's more tight/passive than .50/1

everyone needs to adjust as they move levels, rite? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

thank you all for your opinions & insights.

Preflop: I think 3 betting from the big blind with 88 is no good. What do you do if no eight hits with overcards? I call the raise and then trap if you hit your trips or another decent flop.

The rest looks good. I would be looking for KJ there alot of the time also.
