How many mistakes did I make?

First time playing a ring game in a casino. I'm sure I played this hand all wrong, so please feel free to critique to help me learn.

2/4 Holdem at Bally's AC

Player info: UTG+1 TAG but is the only player that I noticed attempting to bluff on scary flops. The button is weak-tight, bets when he has something, checks when he doesn't.

I get K /images/graemlins/diamond.gif K /images/graemlins/heart.gif in the BB. 1 fold, UTG+1 limps, 4 more limp including the button, SB completes and I check? My thoughts were that if I raised no one would fold for another $2. I coulda built the pot, but I also woulda given away the strength of my hand.

Flop: J /images/graemlins/spade.gif J /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 4 /images/graemlins/club.gif (7 players)
SB checks, I check, checked around to button who bets. SB folds, I call, UTG+1 raises. Folded around to button who calls and I call.

Right now I'm thinking button has a Jack and UTG+1 was trying to steal. Was my initial check and both calls incorrect? Probably so if I put him on a Jack huh?

Anyway the turn is the K /images/graemlins/spade.gif and I get lucky and win a big pot after the turn is capped and river is 3-bet. UTG+1 folds on the river and button shows J /images/graemlins/heart.gif 8 /images/graemlins/heart.gif.

How bad did I play this? And my apologies if any of this is confusing. First time describing a hand.

I stopped after the flop. Preflop you made an expensive mistake my checking. Raise with the second best hand. End of discussion.

Flop someone has a Jack and you must hit your 2 outer.

Turn You sucked out. Bet.

You cost yourself 2.5 big bets by not raising preflop.

you want to build pots when you have the second best hand. in fact, there's a LOT of hands you'd want to raise with in this situation, other than the Very Best.

if you're positive the button only bets this flop with a J, you should fold.

but you really, really, really, gotta raise this flop.

OK, thanks. I now know to get as much money as possible in preflop.

So hypothetically, I raised and everyone called. SB checks. Do I bet or go for a check raise to find out where I am? If I bet and get raised, do I call? If I call, is this more of a "feel" call or a pot odds call?

You raise preflop. Even if everyone calls you should follow up with a bet. Raising preflop, and then check raising appears dubious. Even if you did bet and did get raised you still have the correct odds to call because of the pot odds you get and the implied odds when you hit your 22:5-1 shot.

This is how I would have played it, though others may disagree:

Raise, re-raise, cap pre-flop.
Bet the flop, call a raise.
Check-Raise the turn (just check-calling the turn may be correct if you expect a raise would push a lot of people out, but a call would keep them in).
River: If you think nobody has a J, then bet out. If you think someone has a J, then check-raise if you check-called the turn, but bet out if you check-raised the turn.
